I know Orientation is from August 24 - 29th.

My questions is how many of those days include parent activities? When do we need to get out of town and leave the students alone?

I can't seem to locate the info for past years so I though someone who has done this could help.

Just want to know so I can book our airfare and hotel as early as possible to get the best rates.

Thanks

At one of the sessions we attended this weekend, the Pitt rep said that they are still planning the schedule for Orientation week and that it should be available by early April.

I remember that I hung around for a couple of days, maybe three or four, and most parents had gone by then. I started to feel a bit self-conscious. I did enjoy the seminars though.

My parents stayed for like the first or second day which had some parent activities and then left. Then the next few days I ran around Oakland by myself, lol.

I think we stayed one night. It became clear fairly quickly that DD was ready to get on with it–and it didn’t include us! A lot of the information is repetitive.

Thanks. I am leaning towards flying up the day before and going home the evening of or the morning after move in day.

I know my DS is not going to want me around and my husband will accuse me of hovering if I stay.

Pitt does a great job with orientation. And considering the huge number of freshmen, it’s amazing!

My husband and I stayed about 3 days and attended most programs. Pitt did a great job with the parents and the students. We were leaving our first child. By the time we left we felt very comfortable leaving her. We let her do her own thing while we explored a little on our own.
