Orientation--Really necessary?

I know I posted something similar a few months back but my son just signed up for orientation for the end of July, i went to book him a flight and the airfare is outrageous! We are now really questioning him flying to Philly for 2 days...airfare is close to $500...is it really worth it?

I thought orientation was worth it for my son, but he takes Amtrak.

Have you looked into the Travel Tuition Reduction Program?

Pageturner…that program is for “prospective” applicants…he is an admitted student!! In either case, it is a great program, that I do not think may students know about. He is an athlete and had his airfare paid for during his official visit so I doubt they would pay for him again but thanks for the suggestion.

Absolutely necessary? No. Great opportunity to make some friends? Yes. I met some of my best friends at orientation, and I know others did as well. It’s also nice to just get more acquainted with the university and learn some of what it has to offer.

If it’s really expensive though then you might want to save the money and put it towards something else. I enjoyed orientation but I was only a short train ride away from the campus.

where are you flying in from? i’m not sure what site your using but try studentuniverse.com and southwest if you fly out of a city they fly out of.

Thanks Zackdudde…never hear of studentuniverse.co , I will check it out. He actually flew out on Southwest when he went for his visit buh their rates are also high.

Anyone know how late orientation runs on the second day? I need to make a flight reservation but I have no idea what time get a return flight. Thanks

I believe it ends by 2 but you could call the school for certain.
