Orientation Roll Call

^add me to the list:)

13-14th for me, as well. Any RHPers?

alright! 5 cc ppl for session 2.
remember to join the cc group on facebook!

Son & I [mom] coming to Session 2, June 13-14. Mom is staying @ the Radisson.

Do you get a cheaper rate if you book through USC vs. through the hotel itself?

More people are coming to June 13-14 than I thought. Nice.

yay second orientation!

we should eat lunch together

The rate you get from USC for the Radisson is cheaper, but you will be staying in a "dorm" room with USC furniture etc., whereas the regular Radisson rooms (I think they are on the upper floors) have hotel furniture, bedding and amenities.

who else is going to orientation in december (spring admit orientation)?
it's a long way away..

Anybody going to June 8-9??

I'm going to the June 8-9 orientation session along with a few other CCers.

I guess I'm gonna be last! :) I'll be there July 18-19th.

To all new admits: Good luck with WRIT 140 class.

If you're going 27-28, join the Facebook group :)

Shinzo,,
My daughter signed up for July 6-7 too.

Can any parents who have already been tell me please if I will REALLY be missing anything if I don't go? My ex will be there with her and I've already visited the campus twice.

OK, my hubby didn't come with son & me to the Orientation. The most important thing I did was sign up for a joint savings/checking account with son at USC credit union, as well as a money market account for me (so we can deposit money in son's account). You don't really have to go to orientation to do that anyway.

We got some info & an info packet as well, but I had already learned much of the stuff covered by talking to a lot of parents whose kids attend USC. It was nice to speak with a lot of the administrators (getting Qs answered). I also spoke with Amy Johnson & handed her some papers that she promised to hand carry back to USC & give to the appropriate folks about my child (insurance stuff, etc.) They also handed us a paper which had finalized info about merit & financial aid awarded to our child, which clarified exactly how much we were receiving from USC (we were happy to be getting a scholarship we hadn't been sure son would be awarded). Our kids also got residential building assignments.

The kids took placement tests & got registered. On campus, they can probably even get their USCard (which they couldn't get in HI). They also had a slideshow about financial responsibility for kids & parents to watch & played a tape of a parent reminiscing about child leaving for college.

All in all, not a must for parent to attend orientation with child.

Thank you so much HImom! I was wondering about when we would receive the finalized $$ info. I guess then I can cross off one more thing on my things-that-cause-me-stress list.

You might try contacting them now--they should have the info already. We got ours at the 5/20 HI Orientation, so we could plan the 10 month USC payment plan.

I think I'll wait to ask til daughter's awards night next week, where the scholarships are passed out. She is getting something...let's hope lots of $$$$!!

At our kids' HS, the info about scholarships & awards mostly comes from the families; the HS only gives a few awards & rarely much money. The colleges have informed us (the families) about $$$ awards, rather than the HS. In our case, with USC, we spoke with several different USC administrators, so we weren't quite sure whether son would receive one, two, or all three scholarships. We are happy that he received all three merit awards from USC & whether any would cancel out other merit awards. :) USC has also indicated to us that he can also keep any outside merit scholarships he is awarded, as long as they total less than total cost-of-attendance (for us total awards are WAY under COA).

Our HS gives out TONS of scholarships to the kids! My daughter also got the $1,000 Wal Mart scholarship...hopefully there will be more. Every little bit helps!
