Orientation + sleeping on the beach?

Me and my friends are so stoked to attend UCSB in the fall, but we are also looking to save some money. We decided we're going to one of their orientation dates in July. We wanted to know if we can avoid paying for rooming and accommodations by just sleeping on the beach? sounds a bit crazy, but any input would be appreciated.

It's hella dark and you'll freeze your ass off.

A lot of beaches in California close at 10:00 pm. Some send police around to check. Have a plan B ready.

I wouldn't really advise it. It gets pretty cold at night, even in Santa Barbara.

You'll get kicked off the beach. I went walking around at 2am and the police were roaming around with lights on, they came over to me and told me it was closed and asked what I was doing, it was kinda scary. I was like..just walking, and they told me to go home.

haha
good thing i chose to pay for rooming then.
