Orientation thoughts....part 2

We had orientation visit last Thursday/Friday. From my perspective it ran very smoothly. Alot of information was covered for both parents and students. Son spent the night in dorm and had a very good time during “evening activities”. Classes were scheduled and BuckID was received. Friday afternoon when we left, Son let me know he was very happy with his decision and he felt OSU was the right choice for him. He’s anxiously waiting for 8/22!!!

We had a very similar experience. We are OOS and attended orientation on June 8/9. Daughter came away with a confirmation that she picked the right school. The students/staff and advisors were helpful and made the experience pleasant. Her roommate for the evening activities/sleep over was also a good match. It will be nice that she knows at least one person on August 22.

Since we are OOS, we arrived on Sunday. This gave us two nights of enjoying the restaurants and night life in the Short North area. What a great town! We are both University of Maryland alumni, but are very happy with her decision. We even put an OSU flag in the yard to show our enthusiasm. (Will likely take it down when OSU plays the Terps)

We had a similarly great experience last year. My daughter didn’t even want to leave after orientation. We spent a couple extra hours just walking around campus. A year later and she’s sitting here at home anxious to go back to school because there’s “no food” here and nothing to do. We live in a city of 60k people so, while we have all the typical fast food and a handful of things to do, we don’t quite have the variety she’s grown to expect in Columbus. She loved her freshman year, her dorm, her roommmate, everything.

I had a similar experience when my now senior OSU daughter had her orientation in 2012. She had a wonderful orientation experience and has opted to live in Columbus through the summer now(she is interning too). She loves Columbus, OSU and all that both the university and city have to offer.

Now hoping for the same experience with my youngest daughter as we sit here in our hotel room near campus. She has her orientation tomorrow and Friday. I have the advantage this time as I know my way around the campus and the area pretty well now.

We are heading there next week with our daughter. We are OOS, and our son is an OSU junior, and he really is happy there. He had a good experience at orientation, and hopefully she will too. Like you, MomofSprinter, it is nice to be familiar with the campus and city area
