does anyone have any information about when and how they will be posting the link to register for the upcoming orientation.

Good question Bloomy. I was just searching for that information. See the information below… The only thing I can’t figure out is where and how you sign up. Will there be a link on the Gibson account??

Here is the information on the school web site: “Our online reservation system for orientation sessions will open March 1, 2013. We strongly recommend that you wait to make travel arrangements until you reserve your session space, since spaces are first-come, first served.”
And, here are the dates:

Session 1: Saturday, June 1 - Sunday, June 2
Session 2: Tuesday, June 4 - Wednesday, June 5
Session 3: Friday, June 7 - Saturday, June 8
Session 4: Monday, June 10 - Tuesday, June 11
Session 5: Thursday, June 13 - Friday, June 14
Session 6: Wednesday, June 19 - Thursday, June 20
Session 7: Saturday, June 22 - Sunday, June 23
Session 8: Wednesday, June 26 - Thursday, June 27
Session 9: Saturday, June 29 - Sunday, June 30

*All Sessions begin on Day 1 at 1:30 PM and end on Day 2 by 4:00 PM.

Bloomy, I can’t honestly remember when that opens up, but I looked back through my emails for my son who is currently a sophomore. I found an email confirmation for Orientation registration that was dated April 8th. So obviously, the schedule was out before that date for the Class of 2015!

should we wait up until midnight to ensure that we get the orientation date that we want? does anyone know if it opens at midnight (which im guessing is 1am east coast time?)? someone please help! otherwise i will go to sleep and do this tomorrow haha

Good work jozuko! My guess would be that the registration is done through the admitted students website!

I don’t remember hearing anyone complain about not being able to get the date they wanted. The groups are pretty big as I recall. The weekend dates are usually popular though.

Is the admitted students website different from the Gibson Login? DS went to bed and I am sitting here stressing about this! Do you think that it is going to be so competitive that I have to stay up till midnight! I’m tired!

Green and Jozuko - In the past they didn’t fill up that fast, but of course as soon as I tell you that the session you wanted will be full. And who knows if it will really open at midnight, or if it does whether midnight means Central time or Eastern time.

ah fallen…there you are…I knew you would show up here! So, any idea how we sign up? Gibson? :)

Don’t worry jozuko! Remember most students have not even committed yet. I doubt that you can sign up for orientation if you haven’t committed. The admitted students website is different from Gibson. There is different log in information for that too. It is where you sign up for Destination Tulane and/or the local receptions. But I am not 100% sure that is where you will find the orientation sign ups - it’s just a guess. I am pretty sure it won’t be on Gibson.

Okay, I just figured out how to get on the admitted students website, but I don’t know his username and password and of course he is asleep! The admitted students site is:
http:// www.tulaneinfo. org/ admitted/ login. asp (no spaces).
You are right kreativekat, most kids probably haven’t committed yet, nor do they have extremely neurotic mothers who want to make airline reservations at midnight! That’s it, I’m going to bed!

Just went online and registered for Orientation! It is on the Gibson login, under student services (on the left side of the screen) it is the first thing written in blue : New Student Orientation Reservations. We will be going June 1 and 2. Very excited! Now I need hotel and airline reservations…back to work!

Okay well I am one of those neurotic mothers who is trying to register for Orientation and DD hasn’t even enrolled yet (waiting on css award results, and a few more RD results/merit $$ from other schools but as of now Tulane is #1). I just talked to admissions and they said you can’t sign up for orientation without enrolling (makes sense), so my question is…how bad is it to hold off on that whole process? Do the orientation spots fill up super fast over the month of March? I don’t want DD to enroll and hold a spot from someone else, but she’s 90 percent going to go to Tulane so I don’t want her to not get the orientation date she needs either. UGH. Advice?

How flexible are you about the date you go to an Orientation session?

mofthree: When I made my reservation for orientation two years ago for my older son, we had our choice of dates. I dug up the confirmation email and we made our reservation on April 8th. I don’t know if that takes a little of the pressure off or not, but I thought I would pass that along.

Thanks for the info jozuko - we are all set, too! We are going the 13th + 14th…right between prom + graduation. It is a tricky time of year…

We’re medium flexible. Finals are mid June and graduation right after and lots of grad parties before, so hoping for June 1-2. Kreativekat THANK YOU for looking up old info, it definitely eases my mind!

thought we were all set for Jun 1 & 2. Now it turns out that we have a Bat Mitzvah to go to (which I knew about ages ago, but forgot the date!). So, now we will try to change. DH’s schedule is not very flexible so it will involve switching a vacation week with a co-worker (not sure how this is going to go). And we also have to deal with Prom, finals and graduation. Well, I was happy and excited for about 5 minutes, now I am just stressed out again!

Is this orientation in addition to the orientation and registering we will do during Honors Weekend. I don’t want to miss something but I am confused and unclear whether this is something we need to sign up for. Thxs!

Honors Weekend is not the same as orientation. Honors students do get to register at honors weekend but non-honors students will register at orientation. Orientation is not required for those who attend Honors weekend, but I highly recommend it. It is a chance for students to meet incoming students. Many people find their roommates at orientation. As a parent, I found the information for parents provided at orientation was extremely valuable. But again, it is optional for those who have registered at Honors Weekend.

My D did both the Honors Weekend and June Orientation. There was overlap for sure, but as kreative says one of the differences is that HW not all the attendees will necessarily end up at Tulane, while in June of course they are all committed. So while people do meet future roommates during HW, there is that factor. Of course there are other ways to choose a roommate besides meeting them at these functions. Many use Facebook and Roommate Click to find a (hopefully) compatible roommate. And some people still go random.

Anyway, the other nice thing about attending both is that while the other June attendees are registering for classes, those that are in the Honors Program can explore on their own or do something else fun. Maybe take in Audubon Park.

So I think it comes down to schedule and affordability. If the money is no problem and it isn’t disruptive to go to both, then it is a good way for your child to get even more confident in making this transition.
