Daughter had her online orientation today. Besides some basic information given and choosing her classes there wasn’t much to it. Anyone else’s kids have theirs yet?
My son did his last week. He was on his own behind closed doors and didn’t really offer up much information to me when I asked, so all I know is what was listed on the schedule. He did enjoy meeting up with a handful of incoming students from his college.
It was all fairly quick. I think the small group she met up with didn’t talk much. Either did she I’m sure. There was a thing at night but she said there was lots of kids on zoom and was basically worthless. The negative of online orientation I suppose. Picked her classes. She liked her advisor. Half online classes and no Monday classes.
My son’s went from 9am-3:30pm with a few breaks in there, but I think it varies by college because I’ve been hearing some are only a few hours. His advisor wanted him to use his AP credit for Calc and go straight to Calc 2, but DS had advisors at another college as well as his high school teacher tell him it’s better to just retake, so he was kind of thrown by this advisor telling him differently. He registered for Calc I, but will think about it when the AP scores come out. I wasn’t too thrilled with the elective choice and thought his advisor should have mentioned he didn’t really need to take another Physical Science elective as an engineering major, but he wants to take the class, so I’m letting it go…after saying my piece about why he might want to rethink it.
I’m not sure what I was expecting her schedule to be but honors cinema and psychology of the paranormal I didn’t see coming. A benefit of being in the Honors College I guess. She had a similar situation with chemistry as your son had with calculus but her advisor left it up with her so she is repeating chemistry. Like you we are waiting for the scores. In her case she has to repeat the test because she couldn’t submit it.
