orientation

My parents don't speak English (my dad does, a little bit), should they attend the orientation anyway? Will is be really boring? Will there be Mandarin speaking advisors?

Betterday,

If your parents/guardians are interested in attending Orientation in order to see the Emory campus, by all means invite them; however, you should know that it gets very busy for the first year students, and you will be separated from them much of the time.

Frankly, I think most parents feel entirely superfluous in the process, which is mostly geared toward the students. If your parents don't speak English, it will make it that much more difficult for them. They may feel more than just bored, they may feel alienated.

I think if you have any special needs or questions/requests, you might want to contact the Office for Undergraduate Education and ask them (404-727-6069). It's their job to be helpful.

Are your parents traveling from afar? As an option, you might want to have them come in the Fall, after you've settled in for Family Weekend in late October. It's a great time of the year and less hectic than the Orientation period.
