Orientation

Do most kids stay on-campus or with parents at orientation?

don't know about most - ds stayed with his dad
suspect it very much depends on the kid and what he/she is comfortable with

I agree, it very much depends on the student. Mine also stayed with a parent in a nearby hotel room, and I think he was glad for a quiet and private space after a long and very full day. I was not aware of the orientation schedule before attending. Sessions for parents run until about 10pm on the first night, and then there is a "mixer" of sorts for the students (food, pool-tables, dancing, etc) that goes till around midnight. I think there is a bus service that will get them back to many of the local hotels...our son just called us for a ride when he was ready. The student needs to go into the following day with a definite idea of the classes and alternates (in case some are already full) that they want...registration will be done on-line that morning, without parents but with advice from their department/major. Good luck!
