Orientation

What do we do exactly during orientation? Also, is lodging given to parents who do the parent orientation or should my parents reserve a room at a nearby hotel? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the incoming students stay in the dorms (session 7 kids move into their dorms). I think parents have to find their own lodging at a hotel, which is kind of annoying. What's probably funny is watching all the parents try to get to campus on the T without having their sons or daughters there to help them. I know last time I was in Boston, my mom was totally clueless without me.

During orientation you attend intro sessions, meet other freshman, and register for Fall classes. Parents have separate info sessions. I found it very interesting and helped me feel really good about my daughters decision to attend BC. Parents make their own lodging arrangements.

I agree with bcparent. I almost didn't attend my D's orientation a few years ago. We are from the area and I thought I knew everything I needed to know. Wrong. I am so glad I attended. It is a very busy few days and there will be plenty for parents to do and every once in a while, you manage to see your child :)

bcparent- you say we register for classes... does that mean that classes are on a first come first serve basis and therefore you want to attend the earliest orientation you can attend?

ilk07 They allocate spots in the classes so that students that attend orientation sessions later have an equal chance at getting into the classes they want.

I haven't done my Enrollment/housing yet, so when is the special interest housing due? May 1st? and is it any different for the Shaw house?

both students and parents have to attend information sessions during orientation. during orientation, students are divided up into groups of about 7-10 and discuss a range of topics from alcohol and worries about fitting in. there will be skits performed, dodgeball with orientation leaders, and signing up for classes. orientation is a good time and i really enjoyed myself. and yes, parents have to find other living arragements for orientation.

marriot in newton is a great place to stay if theres still availability. that way you dont have to drive through boston or anything

The Marriott Newton is a great place to stay, very close to the school, we were just there for the Admitted Eagle day and booked it for the Orientation too.
