For the placement test, do we just click the ones (such as French) that I think I would pursue, but not sure yet?

You take the ones that you have prior experience in that you think you might be able to test out of.

This Placement test stuff seems confusing. I think you have to figure out what courses your major requires, to know which placement tests you have to take.

OK, I'm looking this up in my "Welcome to USC" booklet, there is a chart about placement tests in there. Check out pages 25-27....it tells you which majors require courses that require Placement tests. What is your major?

Like for engineering, I do not need to take a foreign language. whew, good, because I do not WANT to take any more foreign language courses! But if you took French before, and your major requires foreign language, or if you just want to take it, you could try and test out of either the 1st, 2nd or even the 3rd semester of the 3-semester requirement, like trojangirlie05 said. Or if you never took French before but you want to learn it, then you skip the placement test and enroll in the 1st semester course.

If you will take a Math course, either by choice or because your major requires it, or Chem 105a or Physics 151, then you HAVE TO take the Math placement test.

Chem 105a and Physics 151 require those specific Placement tests.

Lastly, if you got less than a 560V SAT1 or 24 ACT English, then you MUST take the Composition Placement test.

I hope that's all the placement tests!!

If you scored higher than 560V SAT1 or 24 ACT english is it necessary to take the composition placement?

no, that would be exactly the opposite of what the guy just said.

Right, if you got BETTER than 560 Verbal SATI or BETTER than 24 ACT Eng, then you do NOT have to take the Composition Placement test.

It sounds like it is only for freshman with low English scores, to see if they are ready to start with the first required Writing course, or if they need to take a "preliminary" (remedial?) Writing course first.

That is the good news, no Composition Placement test, if you have good enough SAT's.

Sorry, this is not on the subject of Placement Tests, but the BAD NEWS is there is no way to get out of the USC Writing Course requirement, which is 2 courses everybody HAS TO take. I hope they are not too bad, writing is not my thing. Trojangirlie05, or anybody, do you know anything about what these Writing Courses are like?

The Engineering people warned us about this at their Admit Day talk. They said that you math-science types tend to really hate that writing requirement, but there is no way to get out of it, not with AP tests, not with anything, just forget about it! We all groaned.

rarrrr, i am really frustrated about orientation registration! my deposit and enrollment confirmation is taking FOREVER to arrive at USC and be processed... and i cannot sign up for orientation until it is processed!

patience is a virtue i suppose. i just really want a june orientation session. :)
