Orientation

What all do we do at Orientation? Just a brief overview if possible. Also would I be able to purchase a computer from the FSU store at the time of orientation? If so how would that happen?

Yes, you can pick up a computer at the computer store during down time. They are open pretty much all day M-F during orientation.

The [FSU Computer Store](http://www.fsucs.com/) is a fun place to visit if you enjoy computers. They sell both Apple and Windows-style computers. They also offer “bundles” of the correct gear a student needs, like an extra-long Ethernet cable and extra-long USB printer cables and laptop security locks.

You didn’t get the packet? Oh and I’d ONLY buy a computer from them if you were getting the pre-orientation bundle because everything else is really overpriced compared to what I see online.

^They used to offer decent prices…even to alumni. Hopefully this has not changed. Typically they match the major vendor (e.g. Apple, Dell) student discount prices.

Does anyone know what time we check out on the second day. And can anyone answer the OP question about what we will do at orientation.

You will get two different packets which outline everything and give you the specific times. I got mine within a week of signing up for orientation, but I had one right after I found out I was accepted back in December (IIRC). It’s a pretty long list if you really want everything typed out…

These pages might be helpful though:

I got a pamphlet after signing up for orintation but i didnt get two packets and I signed up for orientation a long time ago

Thank you for all of the information! If I was planning on paying for part of my laptop w/ financial aid money would I just wait until it was refunded through my account or would I be able to use part of my fund. Also, when will my account be charged for Tuition, Books, Housing etc.

Cam, are you an upper-division transfer (coming in as a Junior or Senior?), because if you are, that explains why you’ve gotten pamphlet instead of a packet for Orientation.

We just got back from the first orientation of the season today. On the 2nd day the orientation ends at 1:00, however once you register for your classes (at 11:15) you are free to leave. There is a closing ceremony at 12:30 where the new incoming freshmen all sign the banner, which will also be hung at graduation. The entire orientation is pretty indepth, and while I knew most of the information before arriving, I found it all extremely helpful and informative. It’s ALOT of walking!

^ After you sign up for classes, does it immediately show up online that you’re enrolled? I’m curious because I need to send “confirmation of enrollment” in order to receive a few scholarship checks, but I don’t know how else to do that…

Your summer course schedule will automatically show up as registered as you sign up for the classes. It also shows your major and session (Summer, Fall) that the classes are in, if that helps. The words “confirmation of enrollment” do not show up on the page. It looks pretty official to me though. I would send it. Can’t hurt.

I called re: orientation, and was told this is when we’d get our FSUCard, register for classes, set-up our FSU email account, etc. Make sure you’re compliant/completed everything needed in your online status check.

Last week I had my menigitis, hepititus vaccines and TB test so I’m done with the immunizations and health insurance stuff. My doctor also wrote 6 month refills for my prescriptions and gave me an anti-biotic to take to school - just in case.

So now, I just wait on my final transcript to be sent.

was I supposed to get an orientation packet?

Oh you freshmen look so innocent out there lol. Hope the parent’s aren’t embarrassing you kids that much haha.

@foxfire probably

Foxfire -

Didn’t you get the orientation brouchure: “This is you Orientation Confirmation” after you registered? It also has a parking pass in it, which I think you’ll need if you’re driving in. I couldn’t find the brouchure they sent me online, but maybe these links will help, especially with check-in times, the schedule, etc. Maybe they can send/fax one to you if you call.

How does scheduling work? Is it one-on-one in an office, in large groups, or something else?

I have no idea. I just know the first night, we have to check-in between 7-9 pm and we have a mandatory meeting at 9:15 pm and curfew is like 11 pm! Day 1 - we have something at 8 am the next morning until 9 pm, curfew at 11 pm again. Day 2 - we have programming at 7 am to 1 pm. I read someone said it’s alot of walking, so it sounds like a group thing.

We have to bring bedding, towels, toiletries and an alarm clock, according to this brouchure.

Thank you for the website
