orly?

My school posted this on our school website:

"Due to the state budget concerns the CSU and UC systems are limiting the number of fall 2008 freshman and transfer admits. We recommend students visit the system application websites for application availability. Some campuses are still accepting applications for fall 2008."

is that for serious? -_-

haha i guess so... i know that lots of UC's delayed till end of dec. and probably UCR is still accepting applications..

yarly!!!!!

Why would they still be taking applications if they are having to admit lower numbers?

no wai!!!!!

I was wondering that myself.

Perhaps they want to dash more hopes this year? :D

Anchor: I know, right?

If you haven't applied by now, academics are probably not your first priority.

Okay, I do not want to sound extremely crude here but, I do not have any idea what the UC system is doing.

There are the responsible students who got their apps in on time. It has been said more and more that there is not enough room for all who applied due to too many applicants as well as budget cuts. Now why would they still be accepting students? This annoys me because, I spent alot of time out of my busy days before finals to prepare my application, and it undoubtly would be better if I had all of winter break to prepare it.

It would be different say if they for some reason only got x number of students that they could accept and they still have x number of spots. This would mean that many students who did not qualify for the particular school (low grades and low SATs) applied and were rightfully rejected.

I of course do not know the circumstances of these "extended dates." I know that many schools including UCR, UCSC, UCSB, UCD, UCM, and UCI extended their dates because there were questionably not enough applicants, but now that we find out that there are record numbers of applicants as well as big, big budget cuts, it beffudles me.

bandman- i dont think you're completely ready for a UC school. I love it when there are failures in my classes because they bring down the curve tremendously. If people get in they get in-- many times i dont even know why some of these people even go to school.

Guyy-
"I don't think your completely ready for a UC" Lets let the UC's decide that.

I do not really appreciate being judged by a random college student I do not know. Sure there are "failures in your classes that bring the curve down." But I would not be one of them. I have taken 8 APs throughout high school and I would not consider AP students, the ones who strive, to be the ones bringing your curve down. Yeah I did not get stunning SATs like you might have, but any smart person knows that the SAT is just a test to determine how well you can study for the SAT. So I did not study much, I actually had a life, unique with a hook for my application at that, which I wrote about in both of my essays.

This thread was meant to come to an answer about why the UCs are still accepting applications, when it is clear they cannot accept any more applicants. I am not here to criticize you or any other members, and I would expect the same decency from you.

bandman, i dont think i got my sarcasm. i was not judging you nor was I saying you are not academically qualified.

you are very subtly implying that some of the students who have a really crappy application and submitted it late will actually get accepted and I am saying that i like those kind of people because they will undoubted fail and make you look better.

Guyy-

Well it sounds alot better now that you make sense out of it. But if you read your post again, it sure sounds like your saying: your not going to do well in a UC, I love stupid people like you because you bring the curve down. I appreciate you clearing that up and that makes me feel better.

On your point though, I too think I was misinterpreted. "you are very subtly implying that some of the students who have a really crappy application and submitted it late will actually get accepted" Actually, I was not really saying that directly. I meant that irresponsible students with slightly higher stats would possibly be admitted instead of a similarly qualified, although responsible student who has slightly lower stats. If you see where I am going, I wouldn't understand why the UC's would think a late application should be considered with the same weight as an on-time application. The question, again, is if they would.

And yes, I would agree with you, that the students who could not get their application in on time would be great class competition because there is a high possibility they would not stay on task during college.

haha, glad we're on good terms, but when you think about it wouldn't students who have "slightly higher stats" also care slightly more? yes, there are those who have 4.0's and not really care about school, but generally the students who had good stats to begin probably turned their apps in time.

i think you're just worrying too much.

"Due to the state budget concerns the CSU and UC systems are limiting the number of fall 2008 freshman and transfer admits. We recommend students visit the system application websites for application availability. Some campuses are still accepting applications for fall 2008."

this may translate to "since we are getting less money, please send us your checks to compensate for our loss." lol

"this may translate to 'since we are getting less money, please send us your checks to compensate for our loss.'"

Brilliant!

Now that I think about it, that is pretty funny, and in someway quite possible. They could just want prospective students to send them more and more money. Wow, interesting.

Anyone else think we might need some official clarification as to what all these budget cuts and late applicants mean for us?

Is it really as cut and dry as less spots, more competition?

next step is rolling admission then maybe even secondaries.

Well, at least we wouldn't have to wait roughly 3 months to hear if we got in...

no? most schools ( medical schools, at least) send secondaries to most applicants so they can get even more "funding."

i dont know about rolling admissions though.

I'm sitting here at work and just finished reading this thread; you two fought, made up and are now homosexual all in a single thread. Why do you guys care so much about other people, just worry about yourselves.

I'm sitting here in my apartment and just finished reading your post; you noticed that we fought, came to our good senses and are on good terms now. Why do you care so much about us, just worry about yourself. now gtfo.
