Oscars 2023

It was something for sure. Watching a movie in a theater does make me concentrate on it more rather than look at my phone. It was a little tough to follow, but I got a lot of what you are saying.

This is an interesting interview with the film editor of Everything Everywhere - he did a phenomenal job.

I really enjoyed the fast pace and that they brought all of the awards back.

I appreciate Lady Gaga’s make up- free look. But, Jamie Lee Curtis did it first in EEAAO :joy:

I took me a minute when watching the film to recognize that it was Jamie. I was happy she won. Always like her.

I liked her dress too! Very elegant and stylish, but not over the top!

I think so! I haven’t seen any pictures from the after parties!

That’s what my H didn’t like about the movie…

Re: afterparty. Google “Ciara’s Oscar dress.” :scream:

We loved Laverne Cox’s dress, and Angela Bassett’s. One of the men had a navy suit with an obi-style belt that was quite handsome.

Lady Gaga’s dress was not so modest from the back!!! And I will be glad when the sheer dress style goes away…but big sleeves and flowers replacing it? hmmm. I thought Nicole Kidman’s dress was hideous…

I feel for Angela Bassett being snubbed yet again even though I am a fan of all the nominees. Loved Harrison Ford and Ke reuniting. Knew Pinocchio had to win, but I recommend The SeaBeast for young and old.

Thought Kimmel did an okay job but yikes the opening monologue was waaay too long. And one Will Smith joke would have been enough.

Not toned down from the back view! (I won’t post a pic, still not as daring as Ciara’s post party look)

Reminds me of the Carol Burnett skit about GWTW and Miss Ellen’s portieres:

This dress launched a thousand memes about wearing your sheets to the Oscars:

I would love this dress if it wasn’t outlining the bodice, but a lot of dresses did that:

I love this gown itself (very Audrey Hepburn) but could do without the dead wolf rug she’s dragging:

Michelle Yeoh’s dress was elegant and looked fun to wear, but I wonder if feathers went flying like that one Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire dance:

This dress needed a bit of hemming:

And now for some jewelry:

My emeralds are bigger than your emeralds!

And more emeralds (not sure if they’e all real).

Edit: " Lionhead high jewelry necklace with 80 cts. t.w. tsavorites and diamonds in 18k white gold*"

Statement necklace for sure:

So elegant with that pure white column of a gown.

And these brooches (I just finished binge watching Friday Night Lights and I’m sure Vince Howard never wore something like this!

Good discussion of all the best jewelry:

I thought Jimmy Kimmel did a good job in general and I enjoyed the show. But, both the Malala and Robert Blake jokes were bad.

I loved the Naatu Naatu dance and performance but I don’t think the song was good enough to win.

I had the feeling that the Academy had a hard time deciding between Lady Gaga and Rhianna… so they just said to heck with it!

I enjoyed the show (other than Kimmel’s joke to Malala). Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis both looked stunning, loved what they had to say and loved seeing the obvious friendship and support between the two. I may have mentioned here before that while I did not love the EEAAO movie, I thought the acting was fantastic.

Loved Lady Gaga (well I always do) and enjoyed Rihanna’s performance. Touched by John Travolta’s obvious sorrow over missing his friend Olivia Newton John.

I was not unhappy that Jamie Lee won but her role was so much less important and difficult than Stepanie Hsu (who played the daughter in Everything). And then Angela Bassett in Wakanda Forever. I wonder if it was a bit of rewarding her for her work over the years, rather than the performance in Everything (which was great, but limited in scope and range).

Oscar history is full of examples of people winning for having put their time in, particularly in the supporting categories. There’s even a term for it - Sympathy Oscar. Think Paul Newman for The Color of Money or Judi Dench for Shakespeare in Love.

No disrespect to Hong Chau, Kerry Condon, and Stephanie Hsu, but they had no chance of winning; that Oscar was going to JLC or Angela Bassett for that reason. You’d really be splitting hairs as to which of the two should have won.

And then Google “Hunter Schafer after party dress”. :astonished::astonished:

OMG, those dresses are hideous.

I was thinking the same thing! Hopefully, this isn’t the last we see of Hong Chau, Kerry Condon, and Stephanie Hsu. And I hope Angela Bassett gets nominated again and wins…
