Finally, i would like to say thank you for your help :)

you should submit your college app asap. you have to wait to submit the morril until you get your osu ID number after sending in the application. (I was a morril recipient this year) I don’t think there’s ever a too early to submit your app
It does have rolling admission. If you send in your app early, it doesn’t necessarily increase your chances for main campus, but it’s helpful if you are accepted to main campus because you’ll get your housing contract earlier.
Yes! You can keep sending ACT/SAT scores until around February. I first had a 26, but then jumped to a 30.
As far as chances go, I’d absolutely get that ACT score up and improve your class rank/GPA. You’ll be fine if you’re able to do that :)

@carmelita3 you freak me out now lol , my class is extremely competitive, and that was my junior year class rank so it wont change anymore, if it does change, it will be after senior year which is too late. ACT is kind of hard for me,especially Science section and math was ok :stuck_out_tongue: btw, i will stay home with my parents so i dont think the housing contract matter for me. Thank you tho :)

Average act score for osu is between 27 and 28 but you have a good gpa and are instate so that helps. Is your act 25 or 26? Take it again. My daughter is applying to OSU. It is her first choice right now and she will also apply for morrill as we live in a county considered “appalachia.” They are increasing freshman class size next year! Good luck!!

1)When should I submit my college application?
You should submit your college application as soon as possible and get it out of the way. You don’t want to be like other students who are rushing to meet the deadline. If you’re planning to apply for scholarships, some of them have a December 1st priority deadline, so keep that in mind. If you plan on taking the October ACT, you can wait until you receive your scores to send in your application, or you can go ahead and send in your application and send an updated score at a later time.
2)Do I submit Morrill application at same time or later or what?
Submit your Morrill Scholarship application as soon as possible! They start reviewing the scholarships as soon as they start getting them. The priority deadline is December 1st, so make sure to get it in by or before then. I am also a Morrill Scholarship recipient, and I probably caused my mom a lot of headaches because I kept putting off my application! :3
3)How early is too early to submit a college application?
It’s never too early! If I’m not mistaken, Ohio State’s college application opens sometime in mid to late summer, so if you have time you can get started.
4)Does Ohio State University have rolling admission? Does that mean if I submit early, it will increase my chance of being accepted to main campus right?
Applying early doesn’t necessarily increase your chances of being accepted to main campus either. I had friends who applied months before me and ended up at a regional campus.
5)Can I keep sending my ACT scores, in case I get higher ACT score.
You can if you want to. Once you’ve been accepted to main campus, you don’t need to, unless you’re sending it in for scholarship purposes. Otherwise, the only students who really need to send in updated ACT/SAT scores or school grades are students who are deferred.

I think you have pretty good chances. But like mspearl & carmelita3 said, you should work on getting your ACT score up. I also had a 25, but with a lot of practice tests, my score jumped the next time I took it!

Hope this helps! (:

@joyinthemorning thank you so much, your answers are extremely helpful. and yes, im trying to improve my ACT score. 2nd time i took it i got a lower score, but im gonna take it again in September, it’s so hard for me. Science section always ruin my whole composite score. After a lot of practice tests, what did you end up with on ACT? (may i ask?)

btw, How much does extracurricular activities, out of school activities, work experiences, and diversity thing affect the chance of getting in? how about the essay ?
and Is it hard to get Morril scholarship? i really want it.

thanks again :)

Students from my county/school district have received the Morrill Scholarship. This scholarship isn’t just for ethnic minorities but also for people from certain geographic areas in Ohio. The students who received it were white and mostly middle class but we live in a county considered appalachia and also under represented probably because half the population is Amish, speak English as a 2nd language and they only go to 8th grade! I am not sure how hard it is to get it but from the materials I have read it doesn’t require you to have a super high gpa or act - of course I think that having a high act/gpa would probably be beneficial. We send an overwhelming amount of students to OSU from our school district - I always wondered why and I am thinking this may have something to do with it?? I guess I will find out IF my daughter is accepted if there is validity to the anecdotal experiences I am hearing from others in my community.

@supermanwn - Sorry I never saw this sooner! I hardly log onto this site anymore, lol. Anyway, to answer your questions:

After a lot of practice tests, what did you end up with on ACT? (may i ask?)
The first two times I took the ACT, I got a 25. The third time I took it, I got a 31. The science section was always tough for me too, but I recommend getting a hold of as many practice tests as you can and going over them. The first time I took the ACT, I’d never looked at an ACT test before, and I got a 25. The second time, I’d done tutoring, and STILL got a 25. The third time I took it, I spent time just doing practice tests over and over again. It really helped! Especially with science, even though I still sucked lol.

How much does extracurricular activities, out of school activities, work experiences, and diversity thing affect the chance of getting in? how about the essay ?
and Is it hard to get Morril scholarship? i really want it.

Extracurriculars, OOS activities, work experiences, and diversity have A LOT to do with your chances of getting the scholarship. The scholarship committee wants to see that the students they’re giving the scholarships to are well-rounded. They want to see that you exemplify leadership, community service, diversity, as well as academic excellence. The essay is so important, because that’s where you can really sell yourself to them. Make it informative, yet interesting. After reading so many essays, the scholarship committee will definitely appreciate something interesting. Make sure that your activities/essay demonstrate your committment to diversity. ALSO, make sure to address ALL PARTS of the essay prompt in your essay. So many times, students forget to do this, and they sell themselves short. ):

I will be honest - it is difficult to get the Morrill Distinction. Thousands of people apply, and only ten receive it. However, getting the Excellence or Prominence (if you’re out-of-state) is not as difficult (I think up to a few hundred students receive the Excellence, and I’m not sure about the Prominence). Still, it takes hard work nonetheless.

Anyway, I hope I’ve been able to answer your questions! Again, sorry for the late response - I hope it’s not too late to be of any use to you. And of course, good luck with all of this! I wish you the best. (:
