OSU Business Scholars or Honors Direct Admits?

I’m considering going to OSU’s Fisher college of business as a finance major ONLY if I get in directly to the business school and the only way is through honors or scholars. My question is how hard is it for me to get into the business scholars or honors program?

I have a 3.75, possibly 3.8 GPA and 28 on the ACT. Minority, FBLA, work exp, out of state, etc…

If I don’t get in directly I’ll end up going to IUB’s Kelley school of business because I can get in directly there (they superscore the ACT so I have a 29).

If you’ve gotten into OSU’s scholars or honors, what were your high school scores?

I believe you once needed a 30 ACT and to be in the top 10% of your high school class to get into honors, but now the admissions people approach it more holistically, so that a well-motivated student can get into honors with lower stats. Your application includes multiple essays. Scholars is going to be for students with lower stats. 28 ACT used to be the requirement, I believe.

I am a finance student at Fisher entering my senior year, who was directly admitted as an honors student freshman year, and is now in the Fisher Contract Honors Program, one of the three competitive programs in the college of business that allow you to graduate with honors, as well as have some unique practical experience in business. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about being a finance major at OSU.

I very much like Fisher, but IU’s Kelley School of Business is also an excellent program. I have a friend who goes there, and is also very satisfied with her education and internship opportunities. You would be making a good choice either way you decide.

Thanks! That was really helpful. I really want to go to OSU because they are better overall as a university than Indiana, even though Kelley is ranked slightly higher than Fisher. I prefer the large city atmosphere than a small college town.

Do you feel as if there are a lot of big financial companies recruiting at Fisher? Kelley has a strong investment banking program and I was wondering if Fisher does too. My main question is that do you believe Fisher has good career opportunities across the country?

Fisher actually has a special, by application, program for aspiring investment bankers, and some investment banks do recruit at Ohio State. I know of a few high-achieving, high-ambition students who have done investment banking internships on Wall Street, although I would not suggest you go to Ohio State if that is your career goal. While OSU is great, better ranked schools tend to be the “feeder schools” for investment banks. Most of the positions you could get as an OSU student are for internships and eventually jobs in the Midwest, rather than Wall Street.

Why so much emphasis on being directly admitted? It truly doesn’t matter that much
