OSU Denied at Columbus Campus.. Help!

I am resident of Ohio, and for my decision it says

We regret to inform you that you are not eligible for admission to the Columbus campus. Your application is being processed for your alternate choice campus.

Does this mean my only option is to go to the alternate campus?..(Newark,admitted)
No wait-listing or re-evaluation?..

Yes I believe so, go to Newark for a year and transfer to the Columbus campus. Newark might even be a positive because they have smaller class sizes and your core classes should have teachers who care. OSU has been known to have some pretty bad first-year instructors and you might get better teachers your freshman year at Newark than at Columbus.

My daughter had the same option last year. She enrolled summer semester at the OSU Marion branch at Delaware. She had 2 classes online and 2 classes at the Delaware campus. After you complete your 1st semester at the branch you are able to take half of your classes at Main campus your 2nd Semester. My D. was at Delaware for 2 Classes and at Main Campus for the rest of her classes. This was not the way we wanted her to start college but we made the best of it. She lives in an apartment near Main campus and drives to Delaware for her classes there and goes to Main Campus for her other classes. She did miss out on dorm life but after this last fall semester she starts on Main campus in January. After the shock of not getting into Main even with decent stats. she
has said she liked starting at the branch this summer. Eased into college at a smaller environment and then off to Main campus in the fall. The time went by fast, so you may want to give it a try.
Good luck to you!

What were your stats by the way?

What were your stats? I got deferred.

My son applied engg and got deferred, act 32 and gpa 3.65. Wonder what % of deferral get accepted, but much may depend on the major and commitment by ‘admit’ students.

Go to Newark and then depending on where you live, you can take a few hours at main the next semester, if you want. I had one who started at main campus and the other at Newark. The Newark student lived off of main campus with his sibling and drove to Newark for classes and is actually glad it worked out that way. He didn’t want to drive but in the end it saved him thousands of dollars and he also ended up with some grant money from Newark that he actually would not have received at main. Also, the campus had some excellent professors who he really enjoyed, some of whom also taught at main. The biggest class he had was probably around 50, if that.

It goes fast, and before you know it you will be at main anyway. Also, keep in mind that your transcript doesn’t say “Newark” - it’s OSU no matter where you start off. :)

Hey guys, I am pretty late on posting this, but I recently got denied from the main campus after being deferred for three months. I am very heart-broken, as OSU is and aways has been my dream school, and I have all of the stats needed, but I am definitely open to starting my freshman year at Newark if thats what I have to do to end up on main. I heard a lot of people say really great things about Newark, so I am very happy when it comes to my options. I have a couple quick questions if you don’t mind answering them. I have to apply separately for Newark (I only put that I wanted to be considered for main on my app) so will I still have the option of taking one semester at Newark and then transferring over? Do you just call the admissions office and they’ll explain everything? And I know @friedpasta said that depending on where you live, you could take a few classes at main the next semester…so where do I need to live? Thank you for all your help!
