@icegems91 I just figured out that the same thing happened to me . I didnāt realize until I checked my OSU account. Iām in the general school but not in the college of engineering. I tried looking up how to go from exploration to the college of engineering and I couldnāt find a direct answer. Well this sucks. Is it possible that I can get in if I get a higher SAT score ( I took one in December but I donāt know what I got yet)?

Ahh that really sucks, Iām so sorry! Yeah, thatās what Iām hoping can happen. I emailed my admissions counselor asking if I would be accepted into the college of Engineering if I raised my ACT/ACT math score, bug Iāve yet to get a response back (I think theyāre on break now)

And say if I did end up going to OSU under this exploration programā¦ could I even get into the college of engineering from there? I looked it up and you have to have a 2.5 gpa in OSU and at least a c- in physics and math to PRE - MAJOR in engineering. It says nothing about how to major from exploration to the college of engineering, all it says is that āMajor programs will be more competitive.ā Does that mean I donāt even have the option to major in civil engineering?

Okay, first of all, hereās how the whole engineering majors work at OSU:
Youāre initially accepted into the school of Engineering as a freshman. EVERYONE Iād a pre-engineer, no one is accepted into any one specific engineering major. So everyone saying they got accepted into biomedical engineering or whatnot actually has not. After your first year or so at OSU you apply to your major. That means thereās a very good chance you might not make it into the major you want. Like for me, Biomedical Engineering is the most selective major at OSU, but itās also one of the smallest (150 applied last year, 75 were accepted).

So I guess it sucks for us more because now we have to work on just premajoring before we can even work on majoring. UGH. There has to be some way to be re-evaluated and accepted into engineering before college startsā¦

Wow. The competition is rough! OSU isnāt my top choice, but Iād definitely love to be a Buckeye! I emailed Ohio State a bunch of questions and hopefully we can figure out how to end up in our desired college!

Just got this email from my admissions counselor:

āYou are correct in that you were admitted to Exploration instead of directly to Engineering because of your ACT math.* One of the most important factors we look at for direct enrollment to Engineering is the ACT math score.* If you re-take the ACT and send us the score we will reconsider you for direct enrollment to Engineering.* Having said that, if you are in Exploration you will still be able to take the first year Engineering courses.* Then during your freshman year you would apply to a specialization within our College of Engineering (civil, mechanical, welding (yes we have that), etc.).* The biggest difference is who you would go to for academic advising and we have great advisors in Exploration who can advise you on the path to take to get into Engineering.ā

I donāt know how I can be doing well in all of my math courses Iāve ever taken, and still suck at taking the stupid ACT. But it never fails. Hope this helps people! Seems like there is hope for us all yet!
*

Ahaha this sucks! At least we can fill our prerequisites in exploration. And how did you find out who your admissions counselor was? And I wonder if I can take an SAT 2 Math and hopefully do good enough to be admitted. I hate freaking standardized tests man.

So basically if Iām understanding this correctly, Those admitted to the college of engineering AUTOMATICALLY have the opportunity to apply for their desired major and are automatically pre majoring in what they want to do. People like us in exploration would have to maintain good grades while taking first year engineering courses in order to pre major and also apply at the end of freshman year. So there is just one added step, but it shouldnāt be a problem. The bad part is that even if you got accepted into the college of engineering or exploration, you are not guaranteed the major of your choice.

Apparently if weāre in exploration we can still take all of the first year engineering courses and apply to our major just like everyone else in the school of Engineering can. It almost seems like thereās no distinction, which is weird

Exactly! Thatās what Iām saying. Technically according to their website, to be qualified to āpre majorā in our desired field, we have to have a 2.5 gpa, and at least a c- in physics and math courses. But wouldnāt we have those grades regardless if we were in the college of engineering? There really is no distinction between the two, so Iām relieved. But I still will try to get into the college of engineering just in case. I guess the only advantage of being in the college of engineering is already having the pre major and technically not needing to have a 2.5 gpa or c- in math and physics course. We all have to apply for our majors so once we do that, everything will be good.

And how did you find your admissions counselorās email address?

Its in OSUās website, under admission counselors. Then you find the one who manages your area

Do I have a chance at OSU

Send both scores because they will Superscore and take the Writing score from your first test to give you a 1940 total. My son got accepted with very similar stats. Good Luck!

Ohio State doesnt super score
