<p>Dr. Charles Lockwood, currently chairman of Yale’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, starts in Columbus on Sept. 1, the school announced on Thursday. His appointment is subject to approval of trustees, who meet Sept. 9. His salary will be $710,000.</p>

<p>Lockwood replaces Dr. Chip Souba, who left last fall to become vice president for health affairs and medical school dean at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, even though he had been named the planned successor to Dr. Steven Gabbe as CEO of OSU Medical Center.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Dr. Catherine Lucey, who had been interim dean, is leaving Ohio State to become vice dean for education at the medical school of University of California at San Francisco, where she had served her residency in internal medicine.</p>

<p>Lockwood has been known for fostering collaboration and innovation, said a statement from Gabbe, also an ob/gyn.</p>

<p>“We have one of the great academic medical centers in the country, and Dr. Lockwood’s history of building strong relationships will create greater opportunities for team science and collaboration to further the academic and strategic goals of the university through our health sciences,” Provost Joseph Alutto said in a release.</p>
