OSU Medalist and Presidential Scholarships

Are there any current winners of these scholarships on College Confidential? I know that 100 students admitted to the Honors Program are invited in Mid-March to compete for these scholarships, but what exactly does that competition include?

I was admitted on Nov. 16 and was accepted to Honors yesterday. I have a lot of sports and volunteer activities, some leadership, perfect grades in all AP classes (4.0 UW/4.5 W) and I am valedictorian at a fairly large public high school in Ohio. I was also admitted to the University of Chicago recently, which makes me think I could have a shot at either the Medalist or Presidential Scholarships. I am undecided between OSU and UChicago, but OSU would almost definitely win out if I received Medalist/Presidential. Does anyone know enough about these scholarships to give me an idea of what profile the chosen 100/scholarship winners have?

Thanks

And also SAT 780M 720R 710W if that makes a difference

I was also accepted into the Honors Program yesterday, but I cannot find an application for the Medalist and Presidential Scholarships. Are there applications or are honors students simply chosen by the university?

I had 2 friends who got the Presidential (both declined for other schools), from what they told me their essays for the honors program and the interview process in Columbus that they had to go through were the deciding factors.

By the way, everyone who gets the Presidential scholarship is automatically accepted to the Honors Collegium at OSU, which is basically this special subgroup of the brightest students who compete for grad school scholarships like Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Fullbright, etc.

As another hopeful candidate for a chance at these scholarships I would also appreciate any other input as far as the interviewing process goes - how long the finalists spend in Columbus/how many interviews, content of interviews, etc.

Also, in the case of a selected Presidential scholar declining and going to a different school, does Ohio State offer that vacated spot to a “runner-up” that was not offered the scholarship before, or do they just let it go?

Thanks!

^^ efst15: your Honors & Scholars application functions as the application for the Medalist and Presidential

Does anyone know when notifications go out that a potential student is a candidate for these scholarships? I’ve checked the website and I don’t see anything.

On the Honors-Scholars Website, I think it says that people would be notified mid-march if they were eligible

Thank you felani
