OSU, my university list

Ohio State University- Columbus is one university I have interest in, but difficult for me to place on my list. A obvious reason, I’m a resident of Michigan ( which probably says enough). Also, as I like the fact that Ohio State University- Columbus is said to have the largeset student body and campus, and well ranked school. Though looking at their overall campus, area which will consist of halls, classes etc… it’s relatively small. So small, I question why is the other half even included on google map. I also look at the college atmosphere, the which it may seem to lack. Loooking for a college town across the street, what I’ve seen on google street view was more so run down buildings ( didn’t look at the complete street across).
Anything I’ve stated that I may have the wrong ideal about. What makes Ohio State University- Columbus on your list? Can anyone elaborate on the university?

My list of universities is basically all of the major big ten schools, besides Ohio State University- Columbus.

OSU has a great campus, it has a college feel mixed into a major city…you will see new mixed with old…They have a brean new Rec/workour place, I think the largest in the nation, its incredibly impressive…also they just redid their library which , when finished will be one of the tops on the nation, it already looks amazing…

They are making a completely new student union which I think will be completed in 2011…OSU is the best in the nation for staying on top…the Saturdays are crazy in fall…OSU trumps all

Much Fichigan

Haha to the above post. The whole city is what I would consider a “college town” you don’t really understand it unless you go on a game day when literally the ENTIRE city shuts down. The area right around campus (Hight St. called “the gateway”) has been cleaned up a lot in recent years and rebuilt. If you are “googling” it the images are old. The area right around campus is almost completely made up of student “off campus” apartments and greek houseing. The campus has buildings all over Columbus depending on the programs, but the main area of campus “the Oval” can seem small until you really drive around. As for college atmosphere, don’t worry on that count the students have a bit too much school pride in my opinion :). Hope that helped a bit.

If I were you, and was able to do so, I would go on a visit. That is really what sold it for me. As soon as you get there you’ll see exactly what the posters above me have said, and experiencing it for yourself is a lot more impressive than a dated map.

^ True, true, and true. I’ve met people who chose other big ten school like U Mich. based on various academic reasonings (though I could make a pretty good argument as to why OSU academics is downright spectacular, based on the ever-increasing rankings and class stats they have). But I have NEVER met someone who turned down OSU because of the lack of “college” feel.

OSU is bleeding scarlet when it comes to school spirit. Game days are fantastic! And since there are currently 904 student organizations, there are always random cool things happening around campus and on the Oval. With so many students, there is a ridiculous number of nifty happenings.

The campus area is nice, with most things you need right there in the campus area. That said, I love going into columbus ([Explore Columbus : Home](http://www.explorecolumbus.osu.edu)) all the time, it’s a great city.

Visit!

I lived in Ohio for many years and I would have to agree with everyone that it has a sweet feel to it. I have never been to Columbus, so i can’t really say much about first hand experience about the campus, but the people there are great (and intense) about everything to do with sports. I lived in a small town basically surrounded by cornfields but nonetheless, we felt the school spirit influence of OSU and Columbus. If you were to go to OSU, u would become part of a family (gang) that would take care of u and support u. Everyone has your back… which is a big plus. Again, school spirit is intense, which was prevelant even in elementary school… but that is one of the reasons why i have respect for OSU
