As I've said before I'm looking to be a Spanish major. Being from Ohio, I've always wanted to be a Buckeye. However, I feel Miami is probably more ideal than Columbus for learning Spanish. I am gonna apply as soon as my college GPA is a 2.5 or above. Would that be competitive for either school? I realize both schools are respected universities and have difficult admissions (or so they make it seem) but I don't think a Spanish major has to be genius.
I don't know what FIU's application looks like, but I do have work experience to put down on the OSU application and should I bother with a personal statement? Will OSU or FIU care that I graduated in the Spanish Honor Society in my HS graduating class? Do you think I have a shot at either? Any advice would be appreciated.
Go Bucks/Panthers :)

Are you in a community college now?

Have you visited FIU?

Will your parents pay for FIU? OOS publics won’t help you with its costs.

Save your money…go to OSU…and do a study abroad in a Spanish speaking country.

i understand the connection in terms of being in Miami, but I don’t think FIU as an O-O-S is the best option. I think OSU with as much study abroad as you can get would be a better choice.

FIU…? I’ve lived in Florida almost my entire life and never heard of it. That doesn’t make me think it’s a great place to get a degree.

Thanks for the help.
I am currently in a community college in South Carolina, hence the SC before the Buckeye But I grew up in Ohio, and I’m hoping if I do the ROTC program, maybe that will help cover the tuition.
Would a 2.5 GPA for OSU be a reach? I understand, that’s not great, but I had an awful first semester of college, but I’m turning things around and doing great in my Spanish classes. If I can beat all the in state CC transfers by applying early do you think I’d have a shot? OSU is my absolute dream school. And I know Columbus isn’t 66% Hispanic like Miami, but regardless, I think it’s a great school and the reviews on their Spanish department’s page online seem really positive.
Thanks so much for all the help, guys.

With a 2.5 I doubt you’ll get a ROTC scholarship to pay for the cost of school. You have to compete for them, they aren’t just available for the asking. Are you considered in-state for SC? If so OSU wouldn’t be affordable either.
