osu or stony brook

i am making a decision of what school should i go to
my major is bioengineering. i got accepted by osu and stony brook.
for stony brook,as a in state student i just have to pay 6k/year (16k for total but 11k for financial aid grants & scholarship).
for osu i have to pay 12k (33k total, i got 21k for scholarship, financial aid grants and work study).
osu is #56 and sb is #99
i dont know if stony brook is really bad compare to osu or they are just in same level.
need help

If you want to stay in NY, I’d say Stony Brook. It definitely has a good reputation here. The only thing I’d be concerned about is that there are a lot of commuters compared to most schools. Stony Brook is really great for sciences though!

i think i will be one of the commuters too…if go to sb i may going back to home in nyc once a week.
but despite location,is ohio really much better than stony brook?

I think the experiences you would get would be totally different.

OSU is not really a commuter school - there are commuters, but the school is gigantic. There’s a lot of school spirit and stuff going on, and I would not necessarily say the same about Stony Brook. I think more important here is the environment.

If you can afford the extra 6K a year, I would say OSU.

6K extra = 24K over 4 years which actually is not bad for the OSU experience. I concur with avenlea it will be a totally different experience. Not as much academically as socially. If you can afford OSU it is not an unreasonable choice. If it will be paid by all loans then I might reconsider. This would depend on what you plan to do for grad school etc.

OP, you will have to come up with $48K over four years for tOSU. Can your family afford that? Would it all be debt left to you? If so that’s too much. Stafford loan limits are ~27K and that’s about as high as I would recommend.

i think the money would be affordable, consider osu has a lot of working chances(everyone told me this,is it real?) and i can apply extra scholarship. but if i dont get work/scholarship, which means pay all 48k by loan, how much would i need to return(with interest)?

[FinAid | Calculators | Loan Calculator](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Loan Payment Calculator - Finaid)

Somewhere around $550/month over 10 years - figure rental for an apartment over that time.

thx.but let’s despite money and location for a second.
my major is bioengineering, i am going to undergraduate now, my target would be ivy school for graduate.
the problem is, would ohio make a big difference compare to stony brook? i mean, would go to ohio for undergraduate gives me a much greater chance to get into ivy school for graduate? or it’s just the same as stony brook?

Stony Brook is not a huge drop off academically. It’s arguably the best State U in New York and very well respected.
