I can't decide whether to go to Ohio State or Illinois. I'm planning on going pre-med and majoring in biochemistry. Which school will better prepare me to go on to medical school- How does each rank in terms of research oppurtunities for undergrads, reputation, and overall competitiveness as a pre-med student?

Are you in-state for either school?

Is money no object? Ar these schools out of state cost of attendance affordable?

$36,210, OHIO STATE

$40,130, U ILLINOIS

*overall competitiveness as a pre-med student? *

Are you asking about the competitiveness at each school for pre-med students?

If so, I don’t know if such a thing can be known since pre-med students have different majors.

:)

Illinois is recognized as being a stronger academic institution than Ohio State

I live in Illiniois, but i’ve heard more about pre-med at osu than at Uof ILL. Should I expect the same from either university?

Thank you!

pre-med is essentially a series of required undergraduate science courses. You can major in whatever you want. You need good grades and good MCAT scores. The reputation of the undergrad school is a plus. Illinois has a better reputation as an academic institution than Ohio State. If you are on the fence, Illinois will be a much less expensive option for you. Both school are research institutions and will have research opportunities.

Since you’re an Illinois resident, there’s NO NEED to pay OOS charges to go to Ohio State, if you can get into UIUC.

However, if Ohio State offers you some fabulous merit scholarship, which makes it much cheaper than UIUC, then take it.
