Hey guys, I just got back from visiting OSU and I did not get a chance to visit OU. I liked OSU but am a little of unsure of it being an out-of-state student (Tennessee). I do have some family in OK so it is not TOO bad. My family is a biased OSU fan so I cannot depend on them for viable information. I was curious in what the major differences between OSU and OU is. I know OU Financial Aid sucks but other than that. No matter which school I would major in Zoology.

Well…it depends on what kind of atmosphere you like.
OSU is definitely more of a rural college town, whereas OU is located in a suburb. Both schools are Greek.
I think you would be ok at both schools as a zoology major.

As an Oklahoma NMS, I am naturally OU-biased.

I go to OSU right now and I have got to say that you should come to OSU, it is a great school. OU has better meteorology program and a few other programs that could be deemed better, but I have a friend who was doing zoology and she really liked it here.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but how is OU with financial aid for out-of-state undergrads? Do they give out tuition waivers? I have an EFC of 0, but I’m not from Oklahoma. What about on the department (for me, petroleum engineering) level?

Hey, I am a probable NMF from Kansas and I have looked at both universities

I loved both schools, but I prefer OU for several reasons,

First, I am going into Chemical Engineering and I loved the facilities at OU, I found them to be a little older at OSU, Plus the tour I received at OSU was exceedingly uninteresting. The new Engineering Practice Facility at OU was awesome, and the student that showed me around was great!

Second, OU seemed a little more personalized that OSU. On my visit to OSU I was taken to the Honors college with group of students, then sent clear across campus to another group tour, before one final group meeting in engineering. In Norman, they setup meetings for me and at one point even arranged for me and my mom to be driven to one of our meetings across campus. Everything was very well planned and prepared. This isn’t to say I was mistreated in Stillwater, but OU really seemed to want me to be happy.

Finally, OU has a very proud atmosphere. Everywhere I went I heard someone say something that had been improved in the past few years thanks to President Boren. They seem to put a lot pride into their work.

There are some other reasons that I prefer OU (they have a Chinese program for one) but these are the most general. I hope this is helpful :-)
