I live 30 mins away from OSU and have been accepted to both schools. I plan on majoring in Chemical Engineering. I'm split between going to either Purdue or OSU and would love someone else's opinions on both schools and which they'd go choose. Living so close to OSU I know the atmosphere and things to do outside of campus, but I'm not too familiar with West Lafayette.

Since you’re in-state to tOSU, it’ll most likely be cheaper.
Understand you may want a change of scenery. Purdue has a strong engineering program, but if it’s a lot more than tOSU for you then it’s not worth it. You won’t see any starting salary difference between these two schools (or any school really for engineering) to recoup the extra money spent.

If out-of-pocket costs are similar, visit Purdue and then decide.

Good luck.

^^ Agreed with UCBChemEGrad!!

Here is a relative news,

[Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Chemistry Building](http://fod.osu.edu/projects/cbec/2010_7-26.htm)

Go Bucks!!! :)

^ Interesting stuff, sparkeye.

You see a lot of this new collaboration between departments creating interdisciplinary majors combining chemistry, biology and engineering.

Berkeley renamed its ChemE program to Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering like Ohio State has. It also finished a $162 million laboratory building in late 2007 to house these new interdisciplinary academics: [Stanley Hall](http://bioeng.berkeley.edu/aboutus/stanley.php)

The academic race continues. ;)

I’ve been to Purdue and loved the school but West Lafayette seems small. I feel like I’d get bored easily and have nothing to do off campus. I’m not worried about not getting a good education at either school because they’re both great. I guess i’m just looking to see which one sparks my interests socially and even which co-op/internship/study abroad programs I like more. I think I need to find out more about what kind of programs/services they each offer.

^ Check with each schools career office. But I doubt there will be much difference.

You’re right, you can’t go wrong. I’d choose based on cost, campus feel and other tangibles.

@UCBChemEGrad, Interesting!! Academically, Berkeley certainly is the ultimate benchmark for The Ohio State University as the school currently pushing towards Top-10 among the top publics. In fact, our President Gee ‘almost’ left for Cal back in 1995, but ended up stayed for 2 more years before leaving for Brown and Vanderbilt. He is a firm believer in interdisciplinary studies and departmental collaborations, which was the main reason why he strongly advocated the ‘One University’ principle upon returning in '07.

Thanks you guys!
