OSU vs UMich vs Purdue

Whelp another clueless teenager here asking for help! I have been accepted into OSU, UMich at Ann Arbor, and Purdue. I want to do some sort of engineering, probably computer. My problem is financial. I know that UMich is my top choice, but at $45k a year, it is financial suicide. My parents have no money to help me with and my GPA is 3.1 so I am not getting any scholarships. Im going to either keep my job here or get a new one wherever I go to cut down on debt. OSU will cost me 16k a year because it is in state, Purdue around $30k, and Michigan is $45k. So I guess my question is is it worth paying so much extra money for a better name? What makes the most financial sense in the long term? I honestly would like to get out of state but at the end of the day cash is what matters most.

For engineering, no. Go to OSU and save the money. OSU will provide you the same education and the same opportunities.

Engineering is a market pay driven field...little to no premium is paid to graduates from top programs. Therefore, you will not see a return on your investment by going to UMich, IMHO.

If you were considering U Mich's Ross school of business and you were a top graduate from the program, the premium might be worth it.

Good luck.

I agree with UCB. Engineering is Engineering. Whether you get your degree from a top 5 Engineering program or not doesn't matter. OSU is a fine school and at $30k cheaper, makes perfect sense.

How did you get accepted at Michigan with only a 3.1 gpa?

^thats what I want to know - My daughter has about a 3.6 -3.7 and has been told that University of Michigan is a crazy high reach (OOS)

Something isn't right about this thread.

Look guys, maybe he had a top ACT score or some outstanding ECs or his essays were very compelling...don't question...congratulate and offer advice.
