OSU Weather Question

Hello! I am a senior in high school trying to finalize my list of schools to apply to. OSU is currently on my list, but I do have one concern… I am pretty terrified of thunderstorms. I live in NY and on the rare occasion of a tornado watch, I freak out. OSU being in the midwest, I am worried about the weather… I am just wondering if an OSU student could tell me what the weather is like (how often there are bad thunderstorms)… Sorry for the strange question!

My son has been there 3 years and has seen only one bad thunderstorm (downed trees/power outage) but certainly no tornadoes. The storm was this summer. I think there are typically a handful of minor thunderstorms over the summer. If you’re not there in the summer, you’re not likely to see any.

There are tornadoes in Ohio but very rarely the kind of iconic twisters of Kansas/Oklahoma/Texas. Columbus will get thunderstorms but there will always be a warning ahead of time that storms are coming. I understand your anxiety as I used to have a terrible fear of thunderstorms. And as the previous poster said, most thunderstorms occur in late spring/summer when you will be off campus.

I’ve lived in both Columbus and New York, and the weather is very similar.
