My daughter is applying to Blair, George School, Williston Northampton, Millbrook and Dublin. Does anyone out there know enough about these schools to suggest another 1-2 schools she might look at. Same geographic region (northeast, eastern PA). She eliminated NMH as too big, Berkshire as too 'tight/preppy' looking and is not interested in attending a HADES school or something similar. She wants a good community feeling and interesting kids and not ultra-competitive. She has all A's, 2150 or so on the SSAT (with no prep for it at all). Full pay. She is applying for 11th grade.

I’d second the suggestion to look at Asheville and Holderness, and also add Westtown, Putney, and High Mowing to the list. (Although you must have looked at Westtown if you looked at George . . .?)

Thanks, she nixed Putney and Westtown. I thought Putney would be best fit. She described it as ‘non-diverse’ which I guess is fair enough on some level… Westtown, for some reason did not appeal though George did. She likes the idea of IB… I think. Will look at the others… !

Would she consider Simon’s Rock? It begins in 11th grade, and students can remain there for 4 years, if they choose. Many leave after two, to attend traditional four-year colleges, while others transfer following four-year stays. They are affiliated with Bard College, and so students can begin taking classes at Bard in their third year.

D goes to Asheville.
Beautiful campus and area.
Great teachers who care about the students
Strict rules (esp honor code).
Great college placement.

We are applying to two of those schools and visited 3 of them. What about Proctor Academy? I loved the vibe there as did my kid. Seems to fit all the criteria.

Thanks, Asheville would be great if it were closer to family (we are very far away, she wants to be close to extended family).

I know a couple of kids at Proctor who like it. She nixed it after looking at the website and talking to one of the girls. Something related to the social scene, but she didn’t want to talk about it…hmm.
