other northeast/new england schools

I decided to apply to 5 schools, but every now and then I freak out and think "that may not be enough!!" I am auditioning for
Syracuse
BoCo
NYU
Hartt
and one safety
Plymouth State Univ. in NH

Are there any programs that are highly regarded by some of you that I am overlooking?? Emerson is out b/c they don't accept transfers into the BFA MT. If there are any smaller, less well known programs in new england/the northeast...I'd love to hear some input. I've read up on a lot of programs, but none have jumped out at me....so if anyone wants to throw out the name of a school or two...that'd be fine with me. :)
Thanks thanks thanks

Amy (a worrier/second guesser/overanalyzer like everyone else)

You might wanna look at Ithaca College, The University of Connecticut, Julliard (for acting), and I'm sure there are more.

Amy:

I assume you've looked at the big list, but if you haven't, here's the link:

http://www.geocities.com/musicaltheatercolleges/biglist.html

It might give you some additional ideas.

I cannot think of another school in the Northeast... but Mulenburg (sp?) is another BA program. I have hear wonderful things about the program... even though it is technically a BA in theatre... the students are able to create a focus in MT through taking dance and acting. I do not know what your grades are like, but it may be a good back-up.

Wagner College in NY is another wonderful BA program.

I believe that an audition is required for Wagner... I am not sure about Mulenberg, but I am sure someone on this board will have that answer.

Plymouth State is a small program, but it is auditioned... and, as is often mentioned here, no school with an audition can be considered a true back-up.

If you are certian that you want to transfer you may want to add one non-auditoned school to your list... UNH, maybe? The dance and acting sides of the program appear to be strong.

Good luck!

Kat...right that even an audition based BA program is not a safety. Often it is "easier" odds than a BFA school by audition but still is not a sure bet. By the way Muhlenberg has an optional audition and Wagner has a required audition for its BA program.

Here are some options in the Northeast (New England or Middle Atlantic) by category:

BFA or BM in MT:

NYU/Tisch
NYU/Steinhardt
Ithaca College
Syracuse
Emerson
BOCO
UArts
Hartt
Penn State
Carnegie Mellon
Montclair State
Pace
Marymount Manhattan
Point Park
SUNY Fredonia
SUNY Buffalo
Plymouth State

(if you include Ohio which is not THAT far):
CCM
Otterbein
Baldwin Wallace
Wright State

BA in MT by audition:

American
James Madison
Wagner
University of Southen Maine
Manhattanville
Nazareth College of Rochester
Seton Hill University
SUNY Geneseo

BA in MT (optional audition)

Muhlenberg (is really BA in Theater but with MT options)

BA in MT no audition:

UNH
Susquehanna
McDaniel College
SUNY Cortland
Westchester University of PA
Rhode Island College

You may wish to consider:

BA in Theater by audition:
Fordham
Fairleigh Dickinson

BA in Theater: Optional Audition:

Conn College

BA in Theater: no audition (though some MT opportunities/productions):

Drew
Sarah Lawrence
Goucher
Hofstra (has BFA in Theater audition after first year)
Brandeis
Boston College
Tufts
Brown
Yale
Middlebury
Vassar

oops... when I was talking about Muhlenberg I ment to say that students can create a focus in MT by taking dance and music classes.... too late to go back and edit my original post.

SoozieVT - thanks for that great list of schools above... it is so helpful to see them laid out by type of program! I always forget about Rhode Island and Univversity of Sounthern Maine... great schools. FYI - Plymouth State University is an auditioned BA program, not a BFA or BM.

kat

Oops on Plymouth State...I know that it is a BA by audition. I was typing that out to help Amy and I was doing it on my daughter's laptop having multiple problems with the internet the entire time I was writing it. I didn't even include Plymouth State (and Amy already has it on her list) and at the last minute, after writing the post, I inserted Plymouth into the list and put it in the wrong category. I had to keep saving my post in Word, it was a mess. Then it all came out wrong when I clicked it and then I never proofread it and gave up. So, sorry there! and thanks Kat for correcting my mistyping it.

thanks for all this help everyone! its so comprehensive!! lol
i think it has helped me out a lot!

Does anyone know anything about Pace University? My D was at the NYSTEA conference this past weekend and one of the instructors told her about the MT program at Pace. There is not much information on their web site.

I go to Hartt at the University of Hartford and it is has an amazing program!

Soozievt is such an asset on these boards - her list is great. I just thought to mention one more - Niagara University - they have a solid BFA in Performing arts which includes MT. This would be a back up school compared to several of the others she listed.

BTW, Muhlenberg's audition is solely for scholarship consideration (and I'm not sure if it even applies to transfers), not for admission to the school or the program.

Does anyone know of schools in Miami that don't need auditions and have MT?Anyone know about Rollins?

im pretty sure rollins has a BA in theatre....beautiful campus though, :)
