I am considering JHU for undergrad. I know that they have the best BME program in the nation, a possible route to med school. COuld I major in anything else, such as Computer Sci or Pharmacy, and still go to med school from there? Does it look bad?

u can major in anything you want @ jhu and go to med school. anything from english, history, chem, engineering.

hopkins pre-meds are very successful in the med school process.

Hopkins has the Bloomberg School of Public health, which is the best public health school in the nation.

Many students major in neuroscience (world famous at Hopkins, top 3 in the nation, renown Pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson works at the Hopkins Hospital) and public health (best undergraduate public health program in the US)…

Biology is also a pretty popular major. The more quirky your major, the more interesting you are. Ultimately, your passion for clinical experience is what determines your admissions. When it comes time to decide whether or not to accept you, they decide based upon the interview and your passion for clinical medicine. Majors, GPAs, and MCATs fall at the waist side at this point… How clearly you can communicate you choice to choose medicine will be a huge factor in admissions.

First, Hopkins doesn’t even have “Pharmacy” as a major. Second, Hopkins doesn’t have a “a possible route to med school”. Pre-med is simply taking 1 year of chemistry, 1 year physics, 1 year biology, 1 year math, and the associated labs (not sure if I’m missing anything). Going to Hopkins is not a foot-in for med school. You still need to do well, you still need to take your MCAT and apply. Also, unless you’ve already been accepted to BME, it’s not just a major that you pick. THEY pick you and decide whether or not they want you in the program.

Route means ANYWAY TO GET TO MED SCHOOL

Just cause you get in doesn’t mean you’re going to med school. I KNOW you still have to work your tail off.

I NEVER said about “picking” BME. I merely discussed it as a popular major.
