On the Dartmouth website, it says that you need a peer recommendation; however, on the Common App Dartmouth Supplement, it says "Recommender types accepted: Arts Teacher, Clergy, Coach, College Access Counselor, Employer, Family Member, Peer, Other." Does this mean the other recommender could also be an employer, or does it have to be a peer?

The peer recommendation is required. You really should try to get a recommendation from a peer vs. teacher, coach, counselor (which could be one of your regular recommendations)

a teacher can be considered a peer

a teacher would be your peer if you were a teacher or another adult. It is highly unlikely that a teacher would be considered a peer to a high school student.

But on the common app it doesn’t say it has to be your peer. It says you can put down an Arts Teacher, Clergy, Coach, College Access Counselor, Employer, Family Member, Peer, Other. So does that mean we don’t need a peer evaluation?

It’s not that hard to understand: [Peer Evaluation](<a href=“Home | Dartmouth Admissions”>Home | Dartmouth Admissions)

So why can’t anybody give me a simple yes or no answer? Question: Can an “other recommender” be an employer?

triassiic

Yes, you invite your boss :). This is good, when employer has enough time to write recommendation about you personally.

If you think your employer is a peer according to the guidelines, go right ahead. I would not recommend it.

No, you should not invite your employer. The Dartmouth website clearly states that the peer rec needs to be from someone who is your age. I highly doubt that your employer is a person relatively your age… (at least <18).

Ups, sorry, Who can write your Peer Evaluation? Anyone you consider to be a peer (this should not be a letter from someone who is an adult presence in your life). Here are a few examples: a classmate or teammate; your brother, sister or cousin; a co-worker; a friend you met at summer school or summer camp; your lab partner or your debate partner.

Thank you guys. Also, can my peer submit the evaluation through the Common App, or does he have to do it some other way?

You can submit an ADDITIONAL rec from a coach or employer or whomever, but the peer rec should be from a peer.

Instructions for submitting an ADDITIONAL rec:
[Submit Material](<a href=“Home | Dartmouth Admissions”>Home | Dartmouth Admissions)

So the peer rec. can’t be submitted through the Common App? There’s a special section for other recommenders (peers, employers, etc.) directly on the Common App, but there’s nothing about it on the Dartmouth site.

Hi guys, sorry if this is a stupid question, but am I allowed to read the peer evaluation that my friend wrote about me? I’m assuming FERPA doesn’t apply here, because I believe that only applies to “educational institutions.” I just wanted to double check to see if I can read it, so I don’t break some sort of understood moral code. Thanks so much!
