Other schools similar to Pomona

What are some matches for Pomona applicants that are similar to Pomona in terms of student body and atmosphere?

Claremont McKenna is probably the closest match. Then, some of the other top LAC's... Carleton, Amherst, Haverford, Davidson, Williams...

ummm...i don't agree with Littleatheist's list. Pomona is very different from Claremont Mckenna--the only obvious similarity is that they are both located in Claremont, CA. Based on my conversations with other Pomona students, and the Pomona '11 facebook group, some of the most common application/accepted overlaps are:

Amherst, Swarthmore, Wesleyan, Duke, all of the Ivies, Middlebury, Williams, Rice, UCLA, UC Berkeley, etc etc

I haven't heard of ANYONE considering Davidson and some of the other schools Littleatheist mentioned.

Let's also include Stanford.

Davidson belongs on this list if the list is meant to be a list of good LACs. Since the request was for " in terms of student body and atmosphere" I would suggest that larger schools like Duke, UCLA, some of the ivies, and UC Berkley may not be what is being ask about.

Similar student body, ie top academically, friendly/social, not too quirky, not hyper-competitive:

Duke, Stanford, Brown, Dartmouth, Amherst, Williams

Similar atmosphere, ie LAC, plus above:

Amherst, Williams, Davidson, CMC, Middlebury, Colgate

Pomona Crossovers:

Lots of current Pomona students have applied to the UC's and Stanford in part because of the large numbers of local Californians on campus. But if you're not asking about overlapping applications but rather schools truly similar in atmosphere (as in small classes, intimate interaction with profs) these schools (and Duke) really don't fit the bill.

I think Pomona's unique location, size, high academic quality, and 5C affiliation make a discussion of overlaps very difficult. Among uni's, Dartmouth, Princeton, Brown, and Rice may come closest but are certainly different in many ways.

LACs that bear somewhat greater similarities (although still measurably different) include Amherst, Williams, Carleton, and Middlebury.

CMC and Davidson are significantly more conservative campuses. Colgate is not as academically strong and driven by a more traditional Greek scene.
