My D just got back from the 5 week (2 VA + 3 MT) summer program at OCU and really liked it. Looking for a few names of
some smaller class size schools like OCU that might be a good fit for her to consider as we are coming up on her senior year. She is strongest in VA and weakest at dance. Outstanding grades.
Thanks!
Hey @network_engineer - if you look around in the forum there are lists of MT programs - most of those schools have MT class sizes the same size or smaller than OCU. It’s easier to list the programs that have larger MT class sizes - NYU, Boco, AMDA… maybe Syracuse.
These might be fun threads to read through - both are a few years old but most of the programs haven’t shifted their class size that much.
Our D went to OCU and loved it. In fact, after she went to summer camp there we could have told you it was a good fit for her. But senior year we went through the entire audition year process only to end up in a place she had loved since her freshman year of HS, LOL. I
can tell you a couple of other programs we really liked that we felt had some similar characteristics:
Baldwin Wallace - also a Bachelor of Music Degree. Similar size school. Fantastic program director. Great voice program. Good dance training. Lots of working alums. We have also had friends in their vocal performance program so that may be something you wish to consider.
Penn State -I know – very different in school size. But program size is small. Great vocal training. Strong in all disciplines. And really nice faculty and kids in the program.
Is OCU voice closer to classic singing? The audition requires one art songs
@jianzhou OCU’s voice training has a classical foundation, but you definitely learn all styles of singing including belting. They believe though that it is important for your vocal health and strength to train classically to give you a good foundation on which to build other techniques.
looks like OCU MT is similar to NYU Steinhardt MT. Both are BM and voice focus.
@jianzhou - Baldwin Wallace’s MT degree is also a BM. I’m sure there are others as well. It is a very good foundation to have for a long career.
She may want to look at Belmont too then.
