Sorry had to get your attention. But one guy on CC told was surprised I was sending a resume and stated that I could elaborate on my activites in another way. What way is this? Besides a resume I haven't heard of anything else really.... And I do have some cool ECs I'd like to elaborate on. Thanks!

really? i was planning on sending a CV as well...

CV?????? whats exactly is that

curriculum vitae. same as resume.

i was going to also, originally, but a lot of schools say not to...

Here's the thing about resumes:

They cannot be more than a page

They should be well organized and pertinent, ie no one cares that you won student of the month in 8th grade

They should augment information already in your application or explain activities that may not otherwise be familiar to an admissions officer, so your family raises alpaca and you work on the farm everyday, what do you do?

That said, the most important activities should show up on your app already. Most applications have a 'What's your most important activity and why question', etc etc

ohhh okay so when I get deeper into the application process there will be a place to list activities and such? (sorry i've only written essays so far)

There should be.

well, my resume is about 3.5 pages right now, my sister and cousins in the last 3 consecutive past years have sent resumes to their schools that were the same length and they got into their top choiced schools.. did they recently change it to be one page? cuz i think that will hurt me

yeah, i'd rather have a long resume that shows my EC's well than a short one that just lists one thing after the next, the EC's are my focus

No one is going to read a long resume. I've been working for over 25 years and my resume is 1.5 pages. Be concise. Most EC's don't need explanation.

How do we attach our resumes to the applications online? Like for the common application. And since there is already a spot for us to write our activities and our hours on the actual application, do we still list the same thing in our resume but then just elaborate it more?

sorry guys but i just emailed georgetown and they said that attaching a resume is fine (almost standard)

It may be standard, but the technical limitation is that the Common App doesn't allow you to "attach" anything. You have to put the information into the App itself, usually in the Additional Info section. If you want to send it snail mail, that's fine. But I reiterate: Make it concise and meaningful - something other than a repeat of what's on the application. Be considerate of people's time.

(Just because it's standard doesn't mean that other people are doing it right!)
