I read that Lehigh stresses on the interest factor in admissions, and since its mid-December now and campus visits are really not possible, I was wondering if there are any other ways to show interest in Lehigh besides visiting the campus?

Here’s an idea:

Contact the local Lehigh Alumni club in your town and ask them if they’re conducting any candidate interviews. If you get one, come well prepared to the interview with the goal of finding out what Lehigh can do for you and what you can do for Lehigh.

Send an email to your local admissions officer with a question or two. They will answer, and should note that as a form of interest.

If I were to do any of the suggestions given above, how would the admission officer know I showed interest when reading my college application?

Lehigh keeps track of every contact. It goes into your application file.

Contacting the admissions office directly is much better than trying to establish interest through an alumni interview. If you don’t know your regional officer, then put it in the subject header of your email, something like “For Southern CA regional officer.” The email will then get directed to the right person. Make sure your email has some intelligent questions that cannot be answered by exploring the web site. Once you get a response, make sure you respond back directly to that person, even if it is only a “thank you.”

You would be surprised by how well the regional officers remember certain applicants. You want to create name recognition so that when the officer gets to your application, she/he says, “Oh, yeah, I remember this student. He had some great questions.”
