OU Application

So I'm really excited about this school and I plan on applying for freshmen admission very early next year to make sure I get accepted for Fall 2007. However, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for completing the application. I plan on applying more specifically for the School of Telecommunications (Video Production Sequence) and I need need to know: Is it better to apply online? Do most people do the optional essay? Are there any additional materials I need to submit for entrance into this major? Are there any other tips/information I should know before I apply?

umm... applications are pretty straight forward and mostly stat based so do good on the ACT

Yeah, you don't really need to do anything besides fill out your information. Send in the app fee, or a fee waiver, and you're basically in. Unless you have terrible grades or a terrible ACT, you're not going to be rejected.

I remember when we went to an OU info session that the students applying for journalism and video programs needed to apply much earlier than others, and those programs are much more competitive in admissions than the school overall.

I got an 1130 on the SAT, I'm taking the ACT in June, my G.P.A. is about a 3.5 - 3.7 and I'm an out of state student.

Do you think I should do the essay anyway or is that enough to be a slam dunk?

With a 3.5-3.7, you're fine. 1130 is the old SAT, right? If it's the new SAT, you have something to be worried about. If it's the old one (just math and critical reading), then you're fine.

Do the essay.

It's the old style score. I got a 1700 new style score.

And yeah, doing the essay seems like a good idea. Anyone fill out the application online? Or was it easier to mail it?

I mailed mine, but that's because I was bored in class one day and applied for the heck of it. It's real easy both ways.

Online app is quite easy and simple. Telecommunications - Video Production is the most competitive for the School of Telecommunications I was told by a friend.

I applied ASAP (like, early fall) and heard back within a week, even though I mailed my application. OU has a place on their website where you can "check your application status," so you will know pretty much as soon as you're accepted. In your case, I would apply early too, because telecommunications is supposed to be competitive, and on a rolling admissions schedule, the sooner you get your application in, the less competitive it is.
