My DS has been invited to OU Day in our city which is actually a dinner & OU highlights by President Boren. Has anyone attended one of these and know what the dress code is?

Good question! I’m not sure we are going to be able to go - but trying to work it in.

As for dress - for boys I would imagine slacks/nice shirt/tie - jacket optional would be appropriate. I have a friend who attended one last week with her son. I’ll ask her.

Thanks! I would love to hear what your friends says about the dinner.

Got a note back from my friend…

She said the dress was quite varied. Her son wore nice jeans and a polo shirt (that would not have been my recommendation - unless he added a nice blazer to “dress it up”). Some wore suits and ties and many just wore nice slacks and either a polo or dress shirt.

Still don’t know if we will be able to go -but if we do, I will recommend that DS wear a nice pair of slacks and a dressy shirt (no tie).

Did anybody attend this? Would like to know how it was. Thanks

Yes, our dinner was this evening (Tuesday). Large crowd…around 800 or so, included prospective students and parent(s). Brief welcome & intro followed by dinner. Video presentation narrated by a 1996 alumni, short speech by a current senior student from our area and a (very) long speech by President Boren. If you have taken the campus tour, then you will have seen/heard much of the info in the video presentation. The speech by the current student was “fluff” and didn’t add anything new. President Boren’s speech, while informative and, for the most part, interesting, was simply too long…45 minutes. He lost all the students after the first 15 minutes and most of the parents at the 1/2 hour mark. That said, OU moved up in husband’s opinion & he said that if he were a student, the presentation would make him want to take a closer look at OU & DS concurred. OU has some impressive statistics, all of which can be attributed to President Boren’s leadership.

Glad you went and that it had such an impact on your DS an DS. The school does have some great things going for it.

But -WOW! 800 people! REALLY glad we didn’t go! That would have driven me NUTS!!! As it turns out - last night was crazy-busy and it just wouldn’t have worked!

Oh - and DS got his acceptance on Monday! Finally…

Thanks for the feedback. I was ragging on DD for not attending, but now I’m glad we didn’t go. Sooo I won’t mention this one to her again. LOL We have both done campus tour and talked with advisor, both very impressive.

GRCXX3 how did you find out about acceptance? Is it email, or mail?

Thanks

^^ It was on the website. On the summary of his application was a line that had “Admission status: Accept”. Or something like that…

From what I’ve been told by others - we should get a big packet of info in the mail soon.
