So I basically have my college search narrowed down to two options: Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College and Ohio State’s Honors College.
I’ve been trying to decide between these two for MONTHS but can’t seem to make a final decision. I love the tutorial program at OU and am really drawn to their free tuition incentive, but I like the large campus diversity of OSU more. The problem is, I can’t decide which is more important: the atmosphere at OSU or the learning environment at OU?
I know I’ll get a great education at whichever one I pick, but right now, I can’t make a decision. Does anyone have any advice/opinions on the two?
My daughter is in the exact same position. She was admitted to both OU HTC and OSU Honors. She is so incredibly torn between the two for the same reasons you noted. She loves the tutorial style education of HTC and of course, the scholarship cannot be matched. However, she also adores the city life of Columbus, the buckeye spirit, and diversity. She is absolutely stuck as well on this. She applied to 10 colleges and narrowed it down to these two programs as well. We’d also love to hear input from others that have participated in either program…
Seems we’re all in the same boat! I was offered full tuition by both programs, so it’s very tough for me to choose. I love OSU’s campus more but I really like the personal connections that HTC would offer. I did not connect with OU’s campus like I did with Ohio State.
Has anyone been able to decide yet?
I graduated from HTC a few years ago. I absolutely love Athens and feel good about my choice to go to OU and HTC–just a caveat so you know this isn’t coming from some bitter alum!
If you’re excited by the prospect of a large campus and feel like you fit in better at OSU, those are really big things to pay attention to. OU students are really, really friendly and sociable–that’s wonderful. But drinking is huge, the campus feels surprisingly small after a little while, and OU sports are just not A Thing the way they are at OSU. OSU has plenty of very intellectual students, too, as well as professors who are excited to mentor and advise serious students, and opportunities to participate in research and write a thesis. If you were my friend and thought the culture of OSU was really a better fit for you, I would advise you to go there.
