OU Physics program and honors questions.

Hello, I’m Austin. I am currently a sophomore in HS, but I’m looking at my collegiate options whilst making plans for college.

My current career path is Astrophysics. I plan to get my B.S in physics, then get my masters in physics, and eventually get my P.h.D in Astrophysics.

My current GPA is 4.0 in standard HS classes, but I’m planning on doing honors classes next semester. I also plan on doing concurrent/dual enrollment classes at my local university (OKstate) for my junior and senior years, then maybe try to get some research experience in the labs.

Now, on to my main questions. Does OU have a decent/good physics program? Because, at the moment, I’m going to attend one of the two public universities in OK, OKstate or OU. Since I live in OK, I would get in-state tuition, then go to a different uni for my P.h.D.

For my second question. Does OU have a sufficient honors program? I plan on getting, at least, a 30 on the ACT. Since that’s the default requirement for most honors colleges. Whilst I also plan on graduating with a GPA of 3.9 - 4.0 or above.

Thanks! - Austin.

OU has a fair Astrophysics department. One of OU’s three Goldwater scholars this year was from the Astrophysics department. He received multiple offers for PhD programs and will be pursuing one at a fairly good program.

OU’s Honors College is good. I could list a zillion different things that prove it, but suffice to say if you want to succeed at OU, the Honors College will help you.

Lastly, don’t worry so much about college. It’s good you’re thinking ahead, but just focus on enjoying it. You never know what may happen that could change your plans; you could move, you could find a new passion you want to pursue, etc. Again, it’s GREAT you’re thinking ahead, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself right now by saying “I will have X GPA and Y ACT.”

@WoolScarves Your response was AMAZING. Thank you so much for the advice.

@WoolScarves is pretty amazing. Not just this response.
