Ouch!!!

Well, I got my AP scores and they read as follows:

AP English Language - 5
AP US History - 5
AP Spanish 4 - 5

AP Calculus AB - 2

Yeah, a 2. It kind of surprised me that I did so horribly on the actual test day because I had been getting straight A's in that class all year long. My friend, who had been getting similar grades received a 5 on the test. I pretty much froze on the test day. It's like I knew how to do everything there, I had seen it all before, but i couldn't figure out how to do it. I basically choked. I really don't know what to make of it. I did fine when i took the 2005 AP calc test as practice. I know it was my first real AP test ever, but it was almost exactly like the practice test.

So my question is: Will a college look at this hideous 2 seriously, knowing that I got 3 5's on my other exams and knowing that I got A's in that class all year? Is it forgivable? Could I somehow explain it to them in a way that will make them not consider it in the application? Will doing better on the Calc BC test make up for this one?

You self-report your AP scores on college apps, so you can omit the 2. Colleges won't see it on your official score report until you're already accepted.

self-report, eh? I will look into this. Thanks. I feel pretty stupid now.

Wait, i didn't mean thanks for making me feel stupid, I somehow can't edit that post, sorry. But i was still wondering: Won't colleges find it odd that i chose not to send the calc score?

they will but it's still better to omit the score, than to show them that you failed an ap test..

um, when you send our AP score report, colleges will know you got the 2. so, you'd have to just self-report everything but the 2, and then not send any official AP score report...

They won't find it odd -- tons of students do it, and they know that students are paranoid that it'll hurt their chances if they report 'bad' scores.

OK, i'll just figure out how to self-report scores. They will find out eventually though, right?

Just be honest with your AP scores. Not only are your other scores great, you got A's in the class so as long as your school is compettively ranked, the ywill just assume you had a bad day.

AP scores don't really help or hurt too much. But it'll hurt alot more if you choose to be dishonest about it especially since they have a box on applications asking if theres anything you want to "explain" or come clean aobut. So its a 2. You'll live, colleges wont really kill you over it. You had a bad day, life moves on.

Thanks flong, this will make me sleep easier at night. I guess colleges will see how different the score is and just assume i had a bad day.
