Ouch.

No 5s on AP exams...

4s in US, Eng lang, Calc AB. 3s in Euro and Chem (very disappointed). :(

Am I screwed?

facepalm

^^ amen… ;)

Edit: to the OP, it’s fine. Really, don’t worry.

See the adjacent thread on AP’s.

You’re fine. Trust me.

i got 3s on my english and history  but i got a 5 on my calc bc :)

a quick question… do you have to be a national champ or state champ at science fairs and contests to get into MIT? does someone who has no special qualities have a chance?

You don’t have to be a champion at science fairs (or a participant – I wasn’t). You have to have some special qualities, but luckily, most applicants do have at least one.

I mean, “special” doesn’t just mean “a world-renowned expert in something terrifyingly difficult.” My husband was special because he was a mogul skiier who built rockets in his spare time, for example.

it just seems that i look too ordinary in my resume. so many girls are varsity team players and volunteer here and there… is it too late to make myself stand out? i’m going to be a senior in the fall

MIT FAQ thread, anyone? ;)

That depends - what have you done, and what can you do in time for applications?

The AP scores won’t hurt you unless you were considering high scores to be your “special thing” (which, honestly, isn’t very special for an MIT applicant…)

So, don’t worry.

Dude, if anybody wants to write an FAQ that’s more MIT life-centric, or add more answers to the application FAQ above, I will happily sticky the thread and/or move posts around so the information is easy to find.

I call! I have little to nothing to do in lab for the next two hours and need something to occupy myself.

I’ll just do the application part if a non prefrosh student can do the actual student life questions.

well i’ve been on varsity soccer for three and planning on being on it my senior year. jv field hockey for one year and varsity field hockey for three. i’m really into charitable events like light the night walks and relay for life. i went to virginia girls state and was a treasurer… class secretary for junior and senior year… and i’m up for almost anything until the application. please help :/

@mollie - I wrote a guide to applying to college (focused slightly on MIT) on my blog if you wanted to take a look at it. I think it’s a FAQ wannabe if you will.

And really, your AP scores won’t matter too much. They’re more for college placement imo anyway.
