Our Fresh New Look Is Here

I disagree. The majority of people posting on this thread are adults. Many of us are tech savvy and we know what we like and what we don’t. When people who have been valued contributors to your site for a decade vow to leave in droves, that’s a good indication of a design failure, not an indication of people who don’t adjust well to change. Surely this isn’t the first change they’ve lived through here. But it sounds like it might be the last for a not insignificant amount of very knowledgeable contributors.

Can’t find the black-eyed peas.

When I click on the "walk through new updates ‘here’ it just directs me to this thread. So I can’t even try to learn about the new site. Not worth my time. Disappointing.

OK… I lied (said I wasn’t coming back…)

I was wondering how it was going…I’m guessing there are folks somewhere in the CC universe thinking this will pass, but it’s not that simple. There is just too much wasted space. A simple one-word post takes up 8 or 9 “lines” of space. This is an example of more being less. Do I need to know (only because I’m looking at it as I type) that @MaineLonghorn is a Super Moderator, with 39,397 posts…BTW, in case you missed it…he/she is a Super Moderator (again), and in case you cared about the 39k posts, 37,357 were replies and 2,040 were discussions. Who cares about any of than minus maybe a moderator notification.

In fairness, the rollover info on the bottom is nice (who agreed, like, etc.). Why not have that for the users. Put their picture (smaller), name, role, and create a pop-up that launches on hover with all of the other crap.

Next…put the date/time stamp in the top header.

Reduce the right side, shrink the font, and get rid of wasted space.

Fix the editing so that everything in edit mode isn’t double spaced…it’s just silly.

It’s definitely cleaner than it was…it’s just not functional with all of the whitespace.

@austinmshauri : yes, that’s it - the default avatar. It looks like a brown, blue, and black basketball on my phone.

You do realize I’m 22 years old, right?

I think the younger crowd is in agreement; it’s just that the more-established crowd has been more vocal.

Not a change; gifs have never been allowed since I’ve been here.

@skieurope - your header is now on 2 rows…I can’t read my last post without scrolling…and I’m using a 22 monitor.

Edit: Upon refresh it’s back to one.

With all the rebranding to be more attractive/appealing to the young crowd, thought maybe they’d include gifs. Nope. Too bad— had a fun one picked out for this thread, just in case

@austinmshauri , I am just trying to be positive! I haven’t really played around yet.

I, for one, don’t always need things to be “pretty”, but as a database person, I have seen for years that non-techy people are less intimidated when a system is visually prettier. Of course that doesn’t make up for functionality.

Some users seem pretty dramatic about this change. Maybe I will feel the same way after some more time on the site. And/or maybe it really is horrible for the heavier CC users.

I am just saying give it a chance, give ourselves time to learn the “new” way, provide constructive criticism.

BTW - if you’re going to use the right side…USE IT. The right side should float with the scroll. I’m not a programmer…but that functionality has been around for years. C’mon CC…who did QA on this (or are we doing that now)?

Every upgrade (and I have seen many, as I was originally on the old, legacy version of CC) has met with resistance and some pushback, but this one is not very user friendly, and it doesn’t seem to just be a learning curve. Have to do lots of extra clicking and looking and its not intuitive. ANd the dropdown menu is ridiculous. No, I do not want to scroll past EVERY college listed. Thats simply absurd. Please, BRING BACK the ease of finding threads, and longer lists than 4 in a forum.

Have to assume there was some beta testing done, since in the past several of us accidentally had access to it before we were supposed to  But as others have said, allowing active posters to play with it and give feedback, if this wasn’t done, should have been.

Checked this morning hoping what I saw last night was just a bad dream - it’s so much harder to read and to navigate that I doubt I’ll spend much time here, and I used to love spending time here! I’m very sad.

@skieurope somfar, I’ve seen only one younger person post here…and they didn’t like the new format either.

For me, this isn’t about how pretty this all looks…it’s about the function of the site, which seems way more cumbersome.

I still don’t have a “save draft” function…anywhere. You know…sometimes I’m in the middle of a post and I need to do something beside CC…and want to save and finish (or delete) later.

I don’t have a tool bar on the right that has “save draft” or whatever it’s called.

@thumper1 Drafts appear to be autosaved until you hit post.

Reluctant to use the site the way it is now. But I don’t really want to leave after 17 years. I value the site and the people on it on a myriad of topics. As well, college admissions is my field, and so I want to keep reading for professional reasons too. I just can’t stand the changes for all the reasons already mentioned. I’m REALLY hoping that forum administrators are reading this feedback, many from old timers who I hope are valued members, who have contributed so much to the site.

I hope @CCadmin_Sorin returns with comments or updates. While moderators have nothing to do with what was done to CC, hopefully, they are conveying the majority opinion here and maybe will hear back from forum administrators and can relay to us any hopeful updates given the overwhelming feedback here that is quite negative. As others have mentioned, I have lived through several changes on CC, but this time is the very worst.

When I click on Notifications it says I have 5 but the box only shows 2 and doesn’t let me scroll down. Anyone know how to fix this?

Still awful.
And who the heck uses their tablet or phone in landscape?!?!

Instead of offering your longtime members here a CC sweatshirt, perhaps you should have offered us the opportunity to have input on these awful changes you were proposing. We all thought the last big change was bad but this one, so far, is immensely worse!

I didn’t used to need directions to find a forum I’ve been on for 10 years. I’d revert back this update until there is something useable.
The mobile version runs off the page. It’s crazy.
