Maybe this goes nowhere until we start a public criticism of the owners - Hobsons? Like on Twitter. #FireHobsons #CollegeConfidentialDestroyed lol
This is new format is substantially harder to navigate, really disappointing!
Please bring back the old format!
I just logged on with a computer for the first time instead of mobile. Not sure if they killed the video, but it doesn’t pop up for me. On my phone (Pixel 2XL) the reply box spacing is a welcome change. I can actually read what I typed without scrolling left to right constantly. Usually I just posted something that was kind of a mess and edited to fix the typos. On the computer, I agree that the double spacing is a problem.
Overall I agree with most of the comments. I do see some positives, but I think there a few things, especially the wasted screen space and the non-intuitive navigation, that need fixed.
This has to be worse than Purgatory. Goodbye.
Until the font gets changed, I can’t even see what I may want improved! Reading this site now gives me eye strain and a headache.
The list is kind of like the one in the waitlist thread. You move it forward with updates. There is precedent… you are unreasonably annoyed by it. ?
The new format causes a problem related to the large number of pinned or sticky threads in some sections. Whereas in the old format, the view of the first page typically shows the newest posted threads, in the new format, where each thread title takes up much more vertical space, the pinned or sticky threads are the only ones that are seen without scrolling.
For a new user, this is similar to the page 1 of a resume phenomenon – if there is nothing on page 1 of a resume that catches the reader’s attention, the reader is unlikely to look on page 2. Similarly, if the first thing that a new user sees in a forum section is a bunch of old threads (the pin is not a very prominent feature), s/he is unlikely to scroll down to see what else may be there.
Well CC, I am a long time poster but this change signals my end with your forums. There are so many things I hate about this change. It is tough to use, takes a lot more time to find relevant posts and you see so much less info. Many of us here post to help students whether we are parents or professionals in the field (I am both). The difficulty reading your new website means I will post no more. You have failed the group you proclaim you want to help, students applying to college. Please return to the old format.
The endless video is now gone for me (this is the first I’ve been here since last evening). I’m on a mac laptop. The font size and spacing is still annoying. I don’t really mind the colors that much but I agree that overall layout needs improving.
I was just looking at my preferences. What is a “pop up”? Is that the same as a notification? Also, the vertical phone screen didn’t show the options to change preferences, I had to turn the phone to horizontal. I work in IT. This deployment is a piece of junk. Poorly designed and poorly tested. I can’t imagine how a new user, especially a kid on a phone (as they mostly are) could even find where to post a question any more.
To each, her own, @intparent. Remember, I also suggested our issues vary so much depending on whether we’re on cell, tablet, etc, Apple or Android, what browser. One wants buttons smaller, another finds them too small, already.
I do agree with many of the wanted fixes. But unlike a waitlist thread, this isn’t black and white, WL or not, now an offer or not.
I just posted on Twitter what @txtwins suggested
" #FireHobsons #CollegeConfidentialDestroyed "
I suggest everyone who agrees with that view do so as well.
The endless video is gone! Like @washugrad, I’m on a mac laptop. (Not using my phone for CC has been a decade-long way of managing time for me.)
This is definitely the biggest fix as far as my personal comfort with using the site.
Thank you again for your feedback and patience! We are still focused on reviewing the style and the functionality issues and bugs that have been posted in this thread. We’ve heard your suggestions and are working to address them. This product relies on functionality from a vendor, so not all issues are addressable and items that may “seem” easy to fix are not necessarily quite that easy.
Your bullet list is extremely helpful because it helps us to prioritize. Please know that we will address what is possible, but it will take time to implement. We will work to improve the user experience with the new styling, but it is not possible to revert back.
An area that we are able to respond to is the video player. We are working with our technical team to restrict the video ad to only display for users who are not registered. Logged in users will not see it. While we work towards that, you’ll notice that the video has been disabled.
As with any change, things may be a bit difficult to digest in the beginning. I had my concerns when I was first started working with the new design in our staging environment. However, it really grew on me and I really enjoy it now.
Well I am glad I am not the only one. This update sux. Site is unusable. Oh, well.
@notrichenough I’ve been using Bitdefender for yrs and have only had that warning pop-up twice. Once a couple of yrs ago on a site one of my kids went on and then the 2 times in a row yesterday. I haven’t received it again since those 2 yesterday.
I don’t know much about tech stuff, but I know what I have experienced with Bitdefender over the yrs. That SQL warning is not a “frequent” warning that I have seen.
Bravo on the nix of the video - much, much appreciated.
I’d hate to see users leave. If you’re that frustrated, take a break. Come back in a week or two and see if progress has been made. But dumping quickly maybe just shows this is the excuse you needed to leave (?) Who knows where the format lands?
This redesign is horrible! Has anyone addressed the complaints? Also, is there any way to indicate if you’ve read or commented on a thread? Because honestly, if that’s gone, I am too. I don’t want to waste time rereading threads I wasn’t interested in the first time I opened them.
Thanks for the feedback, @CCadmin_Sorin . Does that mean I get a second pullover jacket?
And thank you for disabling the video. I may undo the ad blocker I had to install and see what it looks like.
For frequent posters, and even frequent browsers, of this site, the key to usability is the abilities to see as many updated threads on one page without too much scrolling, and to navigate to another page without too many clicks. IT efforts to improve usability need to keep these goals in mind.
