Compromised ad serving networks are a huge source of infections and malware. In addition, I find the tracking that is done by these networks to be reprehensible. So if a web site blocks me because I am blocking ads, I no longer visit that web site. And autoplay video is just obnoxious, especially in an ad.
I also use Privacy Badger and Blur in an attempt to limit tracking.
I somehow stumble bumbled into the “latest posts” on my ipad but (a)not sure how I found it an (b) shouldn’t have to do multiple clicks to find it. Bring back the list of posts!!
And if the response to this set of changes is anything like what happened last time, we can all complain until we are blue in the face, but little if anything will be changed as a result.
I wish it weren’t so, but remember that on a site like this we are the product, not the customer. What we want is just not relevant.
Finding the forums is… impossible? And someone implied that this was redesigned for mobile - I can see practically nothing on my mobile screen. So little data that it is just an exercise in scrolling. I can’t figure out how to check on the school forums I track, or even find the parent cafe. I’ve been through a few upgrades with CC, but this one is pretty much unusable. I’ll trade you these miles of white space for getting back the graduation hats that look like buckets of paint being dumped out. Yeah, we always kvetch some, but this is unusable (iPhone XR, iOS 12.1.4). Next time, ask some of the long time users to Beta test, please.
But not miniscule font on my cell, ok?
I used to use Full Site on the cell, I could navigate from Bookmarks to Latest on the same page, none of this enhancement of going to Home, then scrolling around for Latest.
It’s counterintuitive.
And now the “Draft Saved” message blocks me seeing what I’m typing in this Reply box.
Someone please tell us our frustrations might result in some fixes. Or tell us the real reason for the changes was something technical, server or other, and these format changes unavoidable.
The “latest posts” wasn’t findable earlier (but I wasn’t on my ipad). However, I don’t give a rats patoot who was the most active or the most helpful in any particular forum, and the fact that it takes up half a page is not a good decision, to say the least.
Here’s a good example of bad design: If you scroll down to the bottom of this page and want to go to page 2, you can’t – at least not directly. The bottom of the page says “1 . . .6 7 8 9 10 11 12” – Page 2 is not an option, so you have to click on page 6, then you are allowed to go backwards to page 2. This entire design has bugs galore; it should have been beta tested by some longtime users, like myself, who could have provided much needed feedback.
WHY did the powers that be decide that the old forum design NEEDED to be jettisoned?
It was working JUST FINE for everyone here who has helped over the years make CC the go-to-website for any and all information about applying to college.
I’m writing this on my PC , and the excessive amount of white space, the unnecessary double spacing, and the difficulty of finding forums shows me that the redesign of CC was done by amateurs who put little thought into the changes.
And all was this was done with NO BETA TESTING ??
This is the worst “upgrade” of ANY website I have EVER seen!
unbelievable…
shame, shame, shame…
I do not like this at all! I can’t find the forums I want and getting to latest post takes scrolling to hide it. Double spacing replies is not needed. I don’t care who is most helpful!
I actually like the font and pt size on my phone which is where I typically read. I struggled to find where certain forum topics were because I didn’t get the logic right away. Have not looked at the desktop or tablet version yet but by tomorrow hopefully I will have it figured out. I do wish there was a page with the entire forum list hyperlinked so you could bounce around easier. Change is never easy Is it?
I’ve had my Mac for 3+ years and have never had to download an ad blocker - because I’ve never had problems with consistent annoying ads on pages I visit.
I’m not going to download a program just for one website. Having those ads are a choice - a bad choice. This was mentioned and corrected I believe in previous updates - yet here we are again - only bigger, more bold, MORE irritating.
The new design makes it difficult for me to find the different forums. If CC is earning revenues through the ads and by the numbers of users coming here, I think it will lose a lot of people and revenues due to the unusable new design. Furthermore shouldn’t the people who designed the new layout be reading this forum, instead of the moderators passing the comments to them?
I guess they redesigned it for the younger crowd that can figure out this nonsense. The “what are my chances” threads should be hopping now! The parent cafe, not so much.
Also, “most active this month” on the home page is obnoxious. Maybe being featured for this feat is attractive to younger people but my guess is most of us are not looking to win any posting contests.
Most of us not students are here to converse, learn and be entertained. Not to win a popularity contest. Geez.
Here’s a helpful suggestion. You need to color the little rectangle that shows # of new posts since you last read the thread. I need that to pop to see what threads I’ve been reading or posting. The white isn’t doing the job.
