Our instructor still hasn't given us a syllabus...

It’s a week from midterms at my school and the instructor for one of my engineering courses still hasn’t given us a syllabus. She told us she “keeps forgetting to post it,” but now I’m beginning to worry about the outcome of my grade in this class. She told us at the beginning of the semester that attendance is mandatory, but without a syllabus I have no idea how it affects my grade. We have “assignments” that are posted on Canvas and it’s a 50/50 chance whether those are actual, graded assignments or just announcements she wants to make a priority. I have no idea when her office hours are (i think she said her office hours “come and go”), if we have tests, how much our assignments are worth or if it’s a pass/fail or regular course. I can’t drop the class because I’ll lose my scholarship due to lack of hours if I do. What should I do/who should i go to?

***Also, I found out on my school’s website that the syllabus is considered a contract and must be given to students as a physical copy and on their Canvas page.

Speak to the professor first, and if she is still evasive you should go to your advisor of the department head. She should be giving you a syllabus.

I would go talk to the Department Head.

“My Professor for ENG 201 has not posted a syllabus and despite being asked “she says keeps forgetting to post it,”
She also has no posted office hours. Clearly I have no idea on the weight of each of the aspects of the course. I am coming to you for advice about what to do?”

My daughter has had to do this with Professors who are not keeping up their end of the bargain. The Dept head needs to know that these things are NOT HAPPENING because they absolutely should.

I would skip talking to the professor because at this point she has proved she is not to be trusted. THis should be available before the course even starts! Normally I agree that you should go up the chain of command but this is beyond that.
