Our Lives

Every Generation is defined by a crisis:

What crisis will define our generation, and what will define the 21st Century?

I'd say it will either be climate change or the Middle East, but it's possible that China or Russia are involved in something

***NEWSFLASH***[/url">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks"]NEWSFLASH

c

I wasn’t really old enough to appreciate it, though the effects have definitely been a defining factor as far as allowing the PATRIOT Acts and Iraq War to take place. It may be a domino effect type of thing like World War I

9/11 is huge, but I wouldn’t say it defines our generation. Did the Lusitania or Pearl Harbor define their generations? It’s the wars they were a part of that are important. Global Warming (ahem Climate Change) may yet go down in history as the biggest scam ever perpetrated on the world.

According to the Happening, all the bees are disappearing. (And yes, I do my research based solely on fictional movies. Which I suppose explains why a certain person disliked my essay about talking animals and ogres in a swamp, likely located in the deep south.)

But I digress, we have no bees.
Everyone run.

Well actually 9/11 was huge, or at least for the 21st century it was. Climate change on the contrary has been going on for awhile and will continue. 9/11 basically changed everything- from our views of certain racial groups to insecurity and such, it pretty much affected everyone.

globalization
the iraq war will be a minor event, a sort of epilogue to 9/11
on a sidenote, Obama will probably be mentioned as the first black president in US history textbooks to help issue political tensions.

crisis wise in the global perspective, north korea will come out one or two times.

BRIC will definitely have a much stronger influence in the future.

From a political standpoint, 9/11 has easily been the defining moment of the decade, and it’s lingering effects will continue in the years ahead.

The difference is that both were tragic events essentially in the middle of the war. OTOH, the entire “War on Terror” has been an aftershock of what happened on 9/11.

lol @ the implication that Climate Change is just a new political buzzword.
lol @ the thought that the “scam” conspiracy theory.
lol @ the outrageous hyperbole

I have to agree with yoursky and say globalization.

With wikipedia and the other mass of widely available information, no one country can be the sole superpower anymore. A random person (with internet) in the middle of Eygpt has nearly (but not quite) the same wealth of information as a upper class person in the US.

Assuming that you aren’t a ■■■■■, I have to say that I disagree with you. Ofc, everyone has their rights to their own opinion. If you wouldn’t mind, try to (civilly) convince me (and others) of the correctness of your opinion. On the flip side, I/we will try to (civilly) poke holes into you argument.

-Cheers.

(hmmm… I wonder if this will become a flame thread or Climate Change argument)

Globalization has been a trend for 400 years. I don’t think it’s something that defines this generation.

@lolcake: Sorry, I missed your post somehow. It would be a pleasure. May I refer you to this topic:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-confidential-cafe/634483-who-do-so-many-people-believe-global-warming-scam-9.html</a></p>

The last guy left without answering me.

9/11
The Advent of the Internet (Our generation is often referred to as the MySpace generation)

There wasn’t anything in that last post to answer.

I asked the guy why I should believe that Global Warming is caused by human-produced carbon emmisions when the two graphs show no correlation? It’s just elementary stastistics. I’m open-minded on that issue, if anyone would show me valid evidence that our carbon is killing the planet then I’d be all in favor of doing something about it. But I will not have my rights trampled and huge amounts of my money spent for an unsubstantiated theory proposed by people who have strangely large amounts of money at stake.

So… I guess what I need is for a Global Warming/Climate Change advocate to restate his or her theory, as the current one makes no sense and I don’t want to accuse them of anything they aren’t really saying.

How exactly have your rights been trampled? And how do you expect someone to answer a graph that they’ve never even seen? And you didn’t even pose a question in that post.

-Conflict between the West and Radical Islam

@TCBH: They haven’t yet. But if this scam keeps going, I’ll end up paying higher taxes and may have my life limited… I’ll drive a '97 suburban if I want to drive one!

My question is, do you dispute my facts? Or my reasoning? If so, say so and present your better argument. If not, then why don’t you agree with me? As it stands, I’ve stated that their is no signifigant evidence that human-created carbon has caused the global temperature to rise. Please refute that statement if you can.

No I don’t care to refute what you wrote, since I don’t have any sort of degree in any environmental science, and I would prefer to trust those that do.

^ Would you convert to Islam because the people with Islamic theology degrees support it? Or pay $5000 dollars to a professor who claimed that the sky was falling and only he could stop it? People always support causes that give them wealth and power. If you can’t think for yourself then you’ll have no way of separating the truth from the lies. It doesn’t take a degree to compare two graphs. And those who do have degree never seem to be willing to argue it either. I used to belive in global warming, but as I got older I realised the utter lack of logic or evidence. I’m still willing to believe as soon as anyone actually presents the evidence and answers my questions.
