I think that RR will get two more years under the theory that he should be judged on competing with his recruited players.

I agree that Brian Kelly is the guy. While he may not have ties to UM (which as UMDAD has show is greatly overated), he has great ties to the state of Michigan and certainly has a complete understanding of the UM culture.

I know this “rumor” has been going around for a number of years, but I have it on pretty good authority (making this another rumor) that Coach Carr does have Parkinson’s. There is no way he will be AD.

With Martin retiring and hiring his replacement, there’s no chance he’ll be worrying about hiring another football coach; he’ll let the new guy hire his own coach.

Harbaugh burned a lot of fan bridges around town with his comments; I just don’t see him being welcomed back.

The same way Weiss played the Tampa Bay job into a contract extension at Notre Dame, two years ago Les Miles played Michigan’s interest into a contract extension at LSU. Michigan said they’d wait until after the bowl games, it was on ESPN, it was in the news, but Miles went and signed his extension before the bowl game. Forget Miles.

Finally, the athletic department at Michigan is a profitable, self-contained multimillion dollar a year business. The days of the “old ball coach” taking over as AD are long gone. It most certainly will be a “money” guy. The biggest problem with RichRod is not that he doesn’t know the traditions or isn’t a “Michigan Man”, it’s that if they keep losing, people might stop showing up at the games and buying the sweatshirts. If they find a defense next season, if they go 8-4 next year and end up in a decent sized bowl, heck, if they somehow beat OhioState this Saturday, much, if not all will be forgiven.

Next Year Michigan Football will go 9-3, WITH RICH RODRIGUEZ. SO you think firing RR and bringing in a new coach that does not use the type of players RR has recruited will be better??? You are asking for disaster. With RR we are sacrifcing two years of medicoricity for sustained greatness. RR is a football genius. He invented the spread for crying out loud.

Stop starting these negative threads on Michigan Football, your just hurting the program.

What, he’s a dick because he’s not afraid to present an unpopular truth? And what the hell does that have to do with being an exceptional coach, either? The guy could be the biggest ******* in the world for all I care, if he does his job well it doesn’t matter.

Harbough criticized the school and Lloyd Carr. He has gotten into fights with other coaches. Carr has said he’s “arrogant, elitist, and self-serving.”
Mike Hart :“That’s a guy I have no respect for. You graduate from the University of Michigan, and you’re going to talk about your school like that, a great university like we have? To say that we’re not true student-athletes? I don’t know if maybe he wants to coach here and he’s mad because he didn’t get a job. … He’s not a Michigan man. I wish he’d never played here.”

He may be a good coach, but he’s not a “great person.” I doubt anyone here has looked at the recruits Stanford can get because they are one of the best schools in the country. I’m not saying he’s not a good coach, but Rodriguez had a much better track record, with lower rated recruits. Pat White was a 2 star player, and RR turned him into the best running quarterback in NCAA history. No one can argue that Forcier is anywhere near him. Our D has no one, and part of that is Carr’s last 2 recruiting classes.

Let’s talk about Harbough when he wins 2 BCS bowl games. He still has a LOSING RECORD at Stanford. They beat a hugely overrated USC team who wouldn’t be ranked if they weren’t USC. Let’s not pretend they’re an amazing team. They’re 7-3 now, but could easily end up 7-5.

a “hugely overrated” USC team that beat the best team in the Big Ten (Ohio State clinched a rose bowl)?, let’s be honest I agree with you that USC is on a down year and isn’t the 2nd/3rd best team in the nation as they have been the past 6 or 7 years, but they still are a top 20 team for sure… I mean I can understand your reasoning for why you don’t think he should coach at Michigan, but don’t take away from his accomplishments this year, the guy has done an amazing job and they also beat a really good Oregon team

bottom line Michigan needs an answer on defense, we can’t win games if we give up over 30-35 points a game, the Michigan football team throughout the 90’s was known for its physical, running game and stingy defense, and we need to get back to those principles if we want to win

Ive mentioned this once and i will mention it again. Its not RR’s fault. ok maybe some of it is. however as most of you have pointed it out the defense has been struggling. Whose the defensive coordinator- GREG ROBINSON. I can tell you that I am a diehard syracuse orange fan-mostly basketball but i have watched many fball games with him as coach and he is the worst coach i have ever seen. his attitude and playcalling is disgraceful. michigan made a big mistake in taking him. you can tell me oh but he was the defensive coordinator for the 98 broncos who won the superbowl. however that was over 10 years ago and were the broncos even known for their defense in 98? i think they had a guy named john elway

I know, I know. Haha. That’s definitely disconcerting heading into the Big Game. Opening spread is 'furd by 8. The Cardinal are peaking at the right time. But the Bears would like nothing better than to knock you guys out of Rose Bowl contention and keep the Axe on the East side of the Bay.

I should make it clear that I am not suggesting that RR should be fired or that he is not good for the job. I am saying that he has not shown himself worthy…YET. He may have a couple of tricks up his sleeves and somehow manage to beat OSU on Saturday and then, take our team to a minor Bowl and win there too, thereby finishing the season 7-6. Next year, he may be able to improve on this season and finish 8-4, including wins vs a couple of our main rivals (preferably MSU and OSU). If he can do that, RR would indeed have cemented his position as Michigan’s head coach.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss what happens should RR not be able to turn things around. Let us say we lose to OSU this weekend and finish next year with a 6-6 record, including losses to Notre Dame, MSU and OSU. With a new AD, there is a good chance that RR will either be fired or be given one more season to turn things around.

Manhy have made interesting suggestions for head coach, and that was the purpose of this thread. So keep 'em coming!

As for Carr becoming AD, it is not definite and I think he is unlikely to accept given his age, but one never knows. The AD does not have to be a “money” guy, he needs to understand college athletics. For finanical matters, the AD can hire a financial wiz to assist.

Carr will not be the next AD. Period. Bob De Carolis has the best chance for that. For coaches we would look at: Kelly (Cincinnati), Harbough (Stanford), Miles (LSU, unlikely now though), Ferentz (Iowa-please not him), maybe even Stoops (Oklahoma), among others. I’d have to think Kelly would be choice #1 unless ND gets him because he runs a spread offense.
