I have a daughter that is interested in UT Austin. Was wondering if the out of state people could post stats. She will be applying next year in either Communications or Business. 4.28 w GPA/3.9 unweighted 29 ACT. Thanks

This might give you an idea of the general acceptance rates and the stats for out of state enrollees. The general perception on CC is that it is very difficult to get accepted from out of state but these stats indicate that it is not as hard as some here believe (32% acceptance rate). What we don’t know is what the stats are for all OOS that apply.

My DD2 is OOS and has 29ACT/4.58 WGPA and was in the top 5% of her class plus captain of two varsity sports - accepted to Cockrell. From what I’ve read here is that OOS applicants are viewed from a holistic point of view, so ECS and leadership matter more for OOS than for in-state.

Here is a recent thread that has stats: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/1585028-if-you-ve-been-accepted-to-ut-austin-out-of-state-can-you-post-your-stats-please.html

My OOS D was accepted with an ACT of 29, GPA 3.9UW, 4.0W. Her school does not rank, but I would estimate she is around 10-12%. Highly rated public school in Northern California. Tons of leadership and ECs.

She was accepted in School of Undergraduate Studies (undeclared). I don’t think she would have been accepted if she applied to McCombs. We know of one other acceptance from her school (student with higher ACT/SAT but lower GPA) and all others were denied (about 8-10 apply from her school every year).

Hi! I’m OOS and I got accepted to the College of Liberal Arts about two weeks after I applied. My stats:

3.7 cumulative unweighted GPA
4.16 cumulative weighted GPA
2290 SAT
800, 800, 750, 730 SAT IIs
5, 5, 5, 4 on four AP tests last year; planning to take 6 more this year

Hope that helped! :)

Hi,

I was accepted last year as an OOS and am now attending UT. Obviously your daughters grades are good and ACT is ok. However, you did not mention class rank and EC’s, I would include that information in any post concerning acceptance to any college.

At any rate, UT places a huge importance on class rank for both in state and out of state applicants. It has been posted before how the formula works and I am sure you can do a search. At any rate it is a great school and I am having a great time. But for planning purposes you can expect no financial aid as an OOS with average stats.

So back to your question, I would say it is hard to get into UT as an OOS, especially into McCombs, I would say with out a top class rank or a great business oriented hook it would be difficult. I am not sure about Communications.

My stats

Class Rank 1 of 524
4.0 unweighted GPA
ACT 30
10 honors and AP Classes
Freshman class President
Sophomore class Vice President
Junior class Vice President
Student body Vice President
NHS
Key club
Band 3 years
All State Track and Field
All State Cross Country

Thanks for the replies. Our school does not rank, too many over-achievers to make it a fair comparison. If we had to guess, she is in the top 5-10%. Working on the ACT hoping to get it over 30.

Yeah, I got accepted OOS with similar stats, so she should be good.

GPA: 4.0 UW 4.4 W
ACT: 30
SAT: 2020
Rank: 14/398
Decent ECs
