Does anyone know if UVA has released any data on out of state admissions?

The only information UVA has released about OOS admissions is the number of students who are OOS. I don’t believe there is any information published aobut the difference in ACT/SAT scores and such.

The Office of Admission always publishes IS/OOS app numbers and offer rates. There is a ton of statistical information on the Office of Institutional Assessment website.

Did you do a google search? The information is readily available.

[Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: statistics](<a href=“Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: statistics]Notes”>Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: statistics)
[Data Catalog: Institutional Assessment and Studies, University of Virginia](http://www.web.virginia.edu/iaas/data_catalog/datacatalog.shtm)

Dean J, I think he is looking for information based on test scores not the number of spots offered to OOS students. If that is the case, I don’t think I’ve seen any data posted about the difference in average accepted test scores for OOS vs IS.

Nate, the amount of OOS offers given last year was 3,527 (25%). The
middle 50% on the first two parts of the SAT (offers only): 1300-1480.
Percent in the top 10% of their high school class (offers only): 93.8
This is the information provided by UVA but it includes both IS and OOS.

These are the only stats I know of on that site fwiw.
[IAS Historical Data: First-Time First-Year Applicants by Residency](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/historical/admission/first_by_residency.htm)
[UVa - Enrollment by State (map)](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/data_digest/enrl_state_map.htm)
Nothing actually under admission in the data digest unsurprisingly. DeanJ provides more numbers than they do on that front.
Test scores are not broken down by anything, [UVa - Mathematics SAT Scores](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/data_digest/adm_math.htm)

not admission but interesting, [IAS Historical Data: Enrollment by Residency](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/historical/enrollment/major_by_residency.htm)
in state county data at [UVa - Enrollment by Virginia Planning District](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/data_digest/enrl_vpd.htm) and [UVa - Enrollment of Virginians by City](http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/data_digest/enrl_city.htm)
and notice how on lots of things in the data digest they DO break it down by residency, but UVA GPA does not have that option! what are they hiding (well, we know…)…

Hmm, nice finds Hazel.

The student asked for admission stats. That data is on the IAS website (and they go back to 1980 on the charts). I didn’t see a specific request for testing data…which isn’t all that “meaty”.

GPA is meaningless outside of context and GPAs in many counties are very high due to weighting (I’ve seen a C on a transcript where the cum was about 4.0…but the scale went up to 4.5 or so). We don’t recalculate the HS’s GPA. IAS attempts to calculate and average GPA and they use unweighted 4.0 GPAs and weighted ones in their calculation. You can’t draw any conclusions from that statistic.

No one is trying to hide anything. There is no need to fixate on GPA when we have a full transcript in front of us.

I meant GPA at UVA by residency, not GPA before UVA

And also maybe more interesting would be stats by SES not residency

When I was at a UVA information session, I was told that the students applying from OOS should have slightly higher scores and GPA after someone asked a question.

And Dean J, I agree with your statement about GPA’s. This is the first year my school decided to use the weighted system. However, they’re only giving .75 additional points for AP’s onto the gpa instead of the 1 point many other schools give. I believe you’ve said this before, but the admissions at UVA look at the schedule and the student’s grades, not the GPA given to them.

Also Dean J or Hazel, just wondering, can you tell me what the weather is like in VA right now. I’m sitting inside sipping my hot chocolate just waiting to finally get out of this miserable cold weather.

It’s somewhat chilly here but not toooooo cold yet. You can google weather 22904 to get an idea of what’s going on in cville right on the search results page (I love google).

Thanks Hazel. 62 degrees!!! You lucky dogs. I just went outside and blew the leaves off my driveway and am now having hot-chocolate # 2 of the day.

Yeah people always make fun of me when I say it is cold because I am from Philadelphia but I came here for a reason!!!

Thanks, everyone. I actually had not seen the OOS admission rate from an official site (perhaps I need to work on my googling skills). I was hoping to see some data on OSS standardized tests as well, but from everything I’ve seen it has not been publicized.
